Public libraries in the Czech Republic and the deaf users: current situation and recommendations for service development

The main goal of this thesis is to recieve information about deaf users in libraries from their own point of view. Their motivation, needs and potential problems they face when using library services. This thesis is divided into four parts. In the first chapther of theoretical part are the deaf introduced as cultural and linguistic minority. The second chapter is focused on problems and struggle with reading and perception of text which the deaf face. In the last chapter are presented and compared the services for the deaf in the Czech republic and foreign countries. In the practial part of this thesis are analyzied interwies with the deaf on the topic of visiting public libraries. From its outcomes are developed reccomendations fo further development of library services.
