Bullying on the primary school
BALOUN, Ingrid
In my bachelor's work I address the issues of bullying at elementary schools. I focus mainly on the parents' and teachers' attidudes to the bullied children, bullying prevention and the impacts of bullying on pupils' psyche. In the first part of my bachelor's work I introduce the theoretical background. I describe the important concepts which are connected with bullying. I specify the term of bullying, criminal responsibility, who can take part in bullying, kinds of bullying, its progress and consequences. I also describe one of the most important things related to bullying which is its prevention. I address one of the the newest kinds of bullying as well cyberbullying, which has emerged due to the technical progress recently. In the second part I present my own research. The goal of my bachelor's work is to describe the dynamics of bullying, find out about kinds of bullying and what reasons lead the bully to bullying the others. I also talk about how the bullied children cope with bullying and its impacts, how the elementary schools prevent bullying and handle its impacts. I have applied three research questions to accomplish the stated goals: "What kind of attitude and help do parents and teachers offer to bullied children?", "What are the impacts of bullying to pupil's psyche?". I have put eight respondents in the research itself and interviewed them in a semi-structured interview. The research revealed that parents of the bullied victims had a very good attitude to bullying. The parents did their best to solve the situation as quick as possible and to give the most possible support to their bullied child. On contrary, some teachers had the opposite attitude. They were not willing to cooperate in solving bullying. However, the research reveals that not all the teachers were uncooperative. One of the basic components in bullying solution should be its prevention. However, as you can find out in the practical part of this work, prevention at elementary schools is minimal, as the interviewed respondents reflected. The answer to the third research question was identical. Bullying left psychological consequences in all the respondents. Both interviewed victims of bullying and bully have carried the psychological consequences up to now.
