Correlation between inspiratory muscle strength and fitness in patients before lung transplantation
Stehnová, Tereza ; Babková, Lenka (advisor) ; Wanke, Ondřej (referee)
Introduction: Exercise capacity is frequently limited in lung transplantation candidates which can result in worse clinical outcomes of the transplantation itself. There can be several factors limiting exercise capacity, the purpose of this thesis is to determine the influence of inspiratory muscle strenght on reduced exercise capacity in these patients. The aim of this study is also to evaluate whether the Timed Up and Go Test is feasible for exercise capacity assessment in lung transplantation candidates as an alternative for the Six- Minute Walking Test. Methods: 14 patients with end-stage chronic lung disease considered for the lung transplantation waiting list inclusion performed Six-Minute Walking Test, Timed Up and Go Test and inspiratory muscle strenght evaluation using POWERbreathe® K5 (S-Index value). Correlations of the results of these tests were investigated. They were also evaluated separately for a group of patients with inspiratory muscle weakness (S-Index values lower than 80 % of predicted values). Results: No statistically significant correlation was found between exercise capacity tests and inspiratory muscle strenght. The correlation between the results of Six-Minute Walking Test and S-Index values was higher in patients with inspiratory muscle weakness. Statistically...
Physiotherapy in patients before intended knee joint replacement within the concept of prehabilitation
SMÉKALOVÁ, Dita
This bachelor thesis deals with the concept of prehabilitation and its use in orthopedic surgery, specifically in total knee replacement, from the perspective of physiotherapy. Osteoarthritis is the most common degenerative disease of the knee joint, with total knee artrhroplasty being the standard procedure in the treatment of osteoarthritis in the late phase of the disease. In the theoretical part, this work is devoted to an overview of existing knowledge about the concept of prehabilitation in planned operations and current methods in treating gonarthrosis and the possibilities of physiotherapeutic intervention in the preoperative and postoperative period. This work aims to record the preparation and implementation of the physiotherapeutic intervention in a group of patients before the planned knee replacement and then evaluate its impact on the patient's condition. The research group consisted of 2 patients with advanced gonarthrosis who underwent therapy in the period of 7 weeks before the planned operation aimed at strengthening weakened muscle groups, increasing functional capacity, and raising awareness of the upcoming operation with subsequent rehabilitation. During the evaluation of the research, changes in the musculoskeletal system were found, especially the stability and strength of the lower limbs, the strength of the upper limbs, and the position of the pelvis. There was a positive effect on movement stereotypes. Both patients had a reduction in stress from the upcoming operation. The work can serve primarily as a comprehensive overview of the care of patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty for both the professional public and for patients or future physiotherapy students.
Physiotherapy in patients before intended hip joint replacement within the concept of prehabilitation
OLAHOVÁ, Marie
This bachelor thesis deals with the possibility of physiotherapy before the planned hip joint surgery within the concept of prehabilitation. In this thesis I deal with the possibility of preparing patients for this extensive operation. In the theoretical part, I process the knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology of the hip joint, then I outline the issue of the concept of prehabilitation, which is becoming an increasingly discussed topic abroad. In the next part, I provide information related to the total hip arthroplasty and complications during this procedure. Then the possibilities of preoperative physiotherapy are described in the thesis. The aim of this thesis was to record the preparation and describe the physiotherapeutic intervention in a group of patients before the planned hip replacement, for which I used qualitative research methods. The research unit consisted of one man and two women, therapy was usually performed 1-2 times a week for 60-75 minutes, for approximately two months. The data were collected by using an initial and final kinesiological analysis, an interview and an observation. According to that, a rehabilitation plan based on kinesiological and physiotherapeutic procedures and individually tailored to patients was developed. All probands received an exercise unit, which they practiced at home. All patients improved and two of the three patients underwent surgery without complications and the recovery progressed without problems. A third patient did not undergo surgery for epidemiological reasons. The work can inform the professional public, physiotherapists or students of physiotherapy about the possibilities of preoperative rehabilitation.
