This thesis contains the block diagram of hearing aid, anatomy description of human hearing system and description of most important physical values in this problematics of hearing and sound. There are analyzed several types of hearing tests for diagnosis of the hearing loss level and some types of algorithms, which fit the frequency characteristic of patient's hearing loss too. Further this thesis contains interactive program of hearing aid, which has implemented equations for sound equalization.
Characterisation of rare genetic diseases using genomic techniques.
Kmochová, Tereza ; Hodaňová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Schierová, Michaela (referee)
In this thesis the importance of studying genetically determined rare diseases is described and current methods and options to determine their genetic causes are evaluated. The introduction describes the definition of rare diseases and the reasons why we study them. Currently it is known about 8,000 diseases which are caused by functionally serious mutations in one or more genes. The clinical symptoms of genetically caused rare diseases and the results of common functional and biochemical tests do not allow the exact diagnosis in most cases. The absence of the diagnosis and the causes of diseases reduces the quality of life of patients and their families. The determination of genetic causes allows accurate classification of studied cases and it is a base for qualified genetic counseling and prevention of rare diseases in the families. The next chapters describe the methods of DNA analysis (DNA sequencing using different methods), the possibilities of finding the genetic cause of a disease and show the basic approaches to the study of functional impact of the mutations. The practical use of these methods is shown in the case of two siblings with delayed psychomotoric development, special hair quality (pili torti), hearing impairment and hyperuricemic nephropathy in which the genetic analysis...

Prepardness of nurses for communacation with the patient with impaired speech, vision and hearing
POKLOPOVÁ, Kateřina
This bachelor thesis deals with the preparedness of nurses in the area of communication with a patient with a disturbance of speech, vision and hearing. Nowadays, when placing ever greater demands on nurses in performing of their profession, it is important to raise the level of communication too. Communication is an essential relationship between a nurse and a patient in performing nursing care. For professional nursing, communication is the one of the cornerstones and must be constantly developed, especially with regard to communication with specific groups. Communication with disadvantaged individuals, who have communication disorders, is difficult and requires knowledge of communication techniques. The thesis is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part is devoted to communication itself (verbal and non-verbal part). It also describes the communication in nursing, its importance for nurses and barriers that arise in the communication between the nurse and patient. In the main part is explained the term of disadvantaged individuals and is discussed a communication of the nurse with a patient with a disturbance of speech, vision and hearing. The empirical part is focused on the preparedness of nurses in the area of communication with disadvantaged individuals. Three aims were set: to chart the preparedness of nurses in the area of communication with a patient with a disturbance of speech, the preparedness of nurses in the area of communication with a patient with a disturbance of vision and the preparedness of nurses in the area of communication with a patient with a disturbance of hearing. The research questions are defined from that as follows: "How are nurses prepared in the area of communication with a patient with a disturbance of speech? How are nurses prepared in the area of communication with a patient with a disturbance of vision? How are nurses prepared in the area of communication with a patient with a disturbance of hearing? ". For achieving the aims and for answering the research questions were performed a quantitative investigation using questionnaires for nurses. These were distributed to nurses in the hospital in Czech Budejovice, Strakonice and Písek. 102 questionnaires were processed and the results were given to graphs. The survey revealed that nurses have a certain awareness of the principles of communication with disadvantaged patients, but it is necessary to bring their skills to a more professional level. This work can be used for students of the faculty of health and social in the subject communication, or as educational material for nurses taking care of patients with the disturbance of speech, vision, or hearing.
Communication with elderly people suffering from a hearing disorder
BLAFKOVÁ, Šárka
People communicate to understand one another and share information. Speaking is crucial in the course of everyone's entire life. In this thesis, we have focused on the issues related to communication with seniors with a hearing disorder. It is necessary to properly diagnose the hearing disorder using suitable methods of examination, and subsequently propose possible means of therapy and train the patient on use of the hearing aid if necessary. Two objectives were set out, both of which were achieved. Objective 1: Map the effective skills used by nurses when communicating with seniors with a hearing disorder. Objective 2: Determine how unsuitable communication by nurses affects seniors with a hearing disorder. A quantitative and qualitative examination was performed. Within the quantitative examination, 200 questionnaires were handed out, of which 178 properly completed were returned for processing. The qualitative examination consisted of a semi-structured interview of ten seniors with a hearing disorder with the help of technology. We defined three hypotheses. Hypothesis 1: The type of education affects nurses' communication skills with seniors with a hearing disorder. Hypothesis 2: Nurses adhere to the principles of communication with seniors with a hearing disorder. Both hypotheses were confirmed. Hypothesis 3: Nurses consider care for seniors with a hearing disorder to be a burden. The last hypothesis was not confirmed. Three research questions were also defined. Research question 1: How does the current manner of communication by nurses affect seniors with a hearing disorder? Answer 1: The current manner of communication of nurses with seniors with a hearing disorder has a positive effect. Research question 2: How do seniors with a hearing disorder perceive non-verbal communication by nurses? Answer 2: Seniors with a hearing disorder consider the non-verbal communication of nurses to be adequate. Research question 3: What problems do seniors with a hearing disorder encounter when communicating with nurses? Answer 3: The most common problem mentioned by seniors with a hearing disorder was lack of eye contact.
Problems in nurse care of delf birth women
KOTTOVÁ, Jiřina
Problems in nursing care of deaf women giving birth Thanks to opening the frontiers and migration of population, the structure of clients of Czech maternity hospitals has changed during the past fifteen years, and the hospitals have responded to this circumstance accordingly. We are able to create suitable conditions for women of various cultures and religious backgrounds. We should create unlimiting and friendly environment also for deaf women giving birth. I work in the Institute for Mother and Child Care, which became a center for deaf women giving birth in 2004. The main aim of this undergraduate thesis is to find out what are the major difficulties the nursing staff faces in care for deaf women giving birth. The theoretical part describes specific features of care for deaf women giving birth. Further chapters outline the anatomy of the auditory system, hearing impairments and their diagnostics and also deal with communication of deaf people and their identity. The objective of the thesis is to find out whether the nursing staff is able to communicate with deaf women, whether maternity hospitals can procure an interpreter and what are the problems deaf women and nursing staff face. As a hypothesis it was assumed that nursing staff does not have basic information on communication with deaf women giving birth, they are not acquainted with means of communication, that maternity hospitals can procure an interpreter for deaf women and that in health care the main problem for the nursing staff and the deaf women is communication. In order to achieve the research objective, quantitative survey was chosen in the form of a questionnaire for nursing staff in the Institute for Mother and Child Care, together with qualitative research, represented by four interviews with deaf women giving birth in the same place. Data were collected in February and March 2010. From the results of the survey it follows that nursing staff lacks basic information about communication with the deaf and is not acquainted with even the basics of the communication and the biggest problem in the nursing care for deaf women giving birth according to midwives, children{\crq}s nurses and the deaf women is communication. A conclusion was drawn from the results of the survey that the problem of communication with deaf women giving birth has to be addressed. One of the main recommendations is to improve informing the nursing staff about the world of the deaf, improving the attitude to the deaf and respecting their personalities. We do not have to know the sign language in order to communicate with the deaf, it is sufficient to be sensitive, kind and willing to understand.
