Living in Old Brno - architecture and urban study

The subject of the Master's Thesis is a site located in Stare Brno district, close to the city centre. It deals with a corner gap-site defined by the streets Pekařská and Anenská. The proposed buildings complete the surrounding streets and they react to neighbouring buildings by their mass and height. The polyfunctional buildings are divided into four objects. On the most prominent place of the corner there is an office building with a café on the ground floor. Three apartment buildings open to the courtyard with greenery by loggias.

The project includes residential buildings which are located on the land as a block of buildings and an independent building . The space between them is public serving as a passage that is surrounded by business, shops and café. Residential buildings has three floors, the number of housing units is 27. Garages are on two underground floors.

The diploma thesis deals with the urban design of the completion of the block on Veveří and the architectural design of two apartment buildings on Veveří Street, the revitalization and modification of streets, the transport and parking in underground garages. It also deals with the public space on the newly created Závodní and Severní streets and life on Veveří within the commercial parterre and public spaces. The goal was to revitalize a dilapidated and unused block almost in the very centre of Brno, to create an adequate spatial design of buildings, which meet the social, economic and environmental requirements of the 21st century.
