Student's political literacy in Czechia in the view of geographical education

The Bachelor's thesis focuses on the political literacy of students in Czechia and the contribution of political geography to political education of students. The aim of the thesis is to identify the level of political literacy of students in the selected secondary schools and influence on geographical education. In the first part, political literacy, political education and geographical education are theoretically framed and previous research on the topic is presented. Using a survey focused on political attitudes, voting preferences, and orientation on the political-geographical topics among students in selected secondary schools, the level of political literacy of students and the origin of their political attitudes and political- geographical knowledge are determined. The survey shows that the majority of students in selected secondary schools aquire political literacy in all its aspects. Geography education contributes mainly to orientation on political-geographical topics, which is essential for fulfiling the cognitive aspect of political literacy. The survey also indicates that media play a significant role in conveying political-geographical knowledge to students. Political education at primary schools leading to development of children's understanding of politics

The aim of this thesis is to suggest possibilities of effective education of political issues at primary schools. The theoretical part provides an overview of the literature and organizations related to political education of young learners. Framework Education Programme and homeland study textbooks are analyzed in this part, too. The second, practical, part describes the preparation and implementation of qualitative research, which took the form of semi-structured interviews with pupils in the fifth grade. The core of the practical part is in the presentation and interpretation of acquired data. At the very end of the work the goal is fulfilled as the design of learning activities leading students to a deeper understanding of politics is found.
Analysis of students' understanding of politics in the lessons social sciences

This diploma thesis deals with problems and diagnostics of students understanding of politics in the lessons social sciences. The theoretical part concerns several thematic units such definition of key terms and their relations, the theory of constructivism, the methodology of the pedagogical research or the system of political education at school. The practical part involves the qualitative research of students' understanding in two age categories, using the method of interview. Then, both groups of students were compared. On the basis of retrieved information the confrontation with frequently used coursebooks was created. Political Systems and its teaching in civics at elementary school.

This diploma thesis deals with the political systems and its tuition at elementary school. In the theoretical part of the text, the historical development of the idea of democracy in ancient Greece and Rome, the development of parliamentarism in the UK and the expansion of political rights in Europe are announced to the reader. The importance of this development is considerable, as it forms the basis of democratic political institutions that are the core of this thesis. The rest of the theoretical part is dedicated to the undemocratic regimes. It deals with the development of these regimes and its theoretical definition against the democratical one. All of these undemocratic regimes are presented on examples of existing or collapsed states. The practical part of my thesis is dedicated to the tuition of political systems in Framework Educational Program which is presented in the subject Education on Citizenship and the cross-cutting theme Education of Democratic Citizen. The all theoretical knowledge is used in the draft of four tuition blocks. During these classes, students are gradually acquainted with democratic institutions on example of non-profit organisation, municipal and state level.
