Pathological gambling and his choose aspect
ŽAHOURKOVÁ, Barbora
Gambling is a type of compulsive behavior that we may encounter on a daily basis. It is essentially a pathological disorder that may affect the whole society as any one of us could become a victim. It is important to deal with this addiction on several fronts, be it on the level of preventive measures and related information campaigns, or within the framework of medical interventions and healing programs for addicts who wish to recover. Undoubtedly, our main attention should be turned toward the youngest generation. We must also devote more attention to the dangers and risks involved. This behavior negatively impacts family life, job and/or school-performance and, last but not least, the health of the persons involved. In the first part of this thesis, the relevant terminology will be defined. In principle, my work deals with both causes of this pathological behavior and the after-effects. In another section of this thesis, I will deal with the groups of population most at risk. Finally, I will outline existing preventive measures and their division into different types, as well as their description according to specific approaches and levels. In general terms, the goal of this Bachelor thesis is to define and describe the basic concepts and map out the information available on this kind of addiction. Further, it is my aim to assess how it has developed over time, and what the current situation is. In this framework, I have also devoted space to the analysis of consequences of gambling, attempts to draw in the whole society into this process and improve communication channels and, last but not least, the preventive measures in place. In the practical part, I have used the methods of quantitative research. My research tool was an anonymous questionnaire comprising ten questions. The results of my research are presented in graphs which form an integral part of the practical section. On the basis of my research, I was able to confirm the hypotheses that I had identified as being concerned with this type of behavior. By analyzing the respondents' answers, I was able to obtain a better overview about the experiences and negative consequences involved, as well as about the preventive measures which could have a positive impact on the well-being of the families and children at risk.

HŮDOVÁ, Veronika
Psychological aspects of gambling and the consequences associated with this problem My thesis deals with psychological aspects of gambling and the consequences associated with this problem. The research was focused on regular casino visitors, but partly also to gamblers who have already decided to treat their addiction. The theoretical part is divided into 8 subchapters, in which basic terms concerning gambling are mentioned, for example: definitions and categorization of the terms gambling and pathological gambling, a list of possible causes of the addiction origination, characteristics of risk groups, individual forms of gambling, the development of addiction, the addiction treatment and the possibility of a social worker intervention. The purpose of my study was to identify and analyze the motives for gambling with regard to the quality of life, with a special attention to social aspects and possibilities of a social worker intervention. In relation to the objective of the thesis four hypotheses were stated, for verification of which quantitative research was used. The interviewing method by means of a structured questionnaire was selected. The analysis of the conclusions enabled to verify the defined hypothesis, which says, that playing of hazardous games has a negative effect to level of psychological mood of the human being. Another stated hypothesis supposing that gambling causes economic, social, family and work problems has not been confirmed by the research. The following hypothesis presuming that a random winning encourages the gamblers to continue playing has been confirmed by a vast majority of respondents. And the last hypothesis, in which is defined the presumption, that the level of life quality is related to grade of pathological gambling, was also confirmed. The results of my work may be used in education or as information for social workers. Based on the findings on the issue of pathological gambling I suggest to focus on prevention of development of this dangerous addiction.
