Rafael Kubelík's aesthetic preferences in the light of the Munich sources
Kraftová, Nikol ; Ottlová, Marta (advisor) ; Gabrielová, Jarmila (referee)
This dissertation deals with the aesthetic opinions of conductor Rafael Kubelík as evidenced in the materials available in archives and cultural institutions in Munich as well as in the recollections of Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra members from the time of Kubelík's direction of that ensemble. The study includes an overview with commentary of the repertoire performed by Kubelík in subscription concerts by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, which along with Kubelík's comments and in comparison with the programme of other guest conductors indicates Kubelík's programming activities and probably his musical preferences. This study also discusses Kubelík's interest in opera and his ideas on its staging and production. Other chapters deal with Kubelík's qualities as a conductor and the specific demands he made on his performers. It also includes a curriculum vitae of Rafael Kubelík and a number of recollections by people who knew him, all of which serve to fill out the overall picture of Kubelík's personality.
Systematization of orchestral excerpts
Kasal, Jan ; MIKOLÁŠEK, Daniel (advisor) ; MAZÁČEK, Václav (referee)
The main aim of the final thesis "Systematization of orchestral excerpts for percussion instruments" is to help percussionists to be more effective in their excerpts preparation process for their orchestral interpretation and also to help them succeed both at the domestic and at the foreign orchestra auditions. Firstly the thesis analyses the audition process, requirements for the musician and a ranking list of the most required musical excerpts. Secondly it shows a detailed analysis of typical excerpts. The analysis is classified according to particular instruments, highlights the most difficult places in the excerpt and gives explanations how the musicians should manage their preparation process. The thesis also includes the most important excerpts for percussion instruments besides the samples of audition invitations. Therefore it is becoming a small specific anthology for students of art schools and for those who are in the preparation process for an audition.
