Fiber joints and their protection
Galovič, Dominik ; Dejdar, Petr (referee) ; Münster, Petr (advisor)
The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of optical fiber joining. The theoretical part describes the methods of optical fiber splicing, protection of optical splices and possible errors that affect the quality of the optical splice. Also described are methods for measuring important optical joint parameters, such as attenuation or reflection attenuation. An important part of the work is a description of the restoration of primary protection of spliced fiber. The theory is further applied in the practical part, where the attenuation of the optical links was measured using the mentioned methods. It also includes a comparison of the mechanical strength of optical splice and a joint formed by optical connectors. This knowledge is then applied in a proposal for minimizing the optical splice and proposals for restoring the primary protection of the optical splice was described.
Spectral characteristics measurement of single fibre optical transmission
Balon, Radek ; Křepelka, Václav (referee) ; Filka, Miloslav (advisor)
The main object of the bachelor´s thesis is show familiarize with optical networks and measuring when the fibres are connected to operating network. The whole thesis was separated into several parts. The first part was deals with optic fiber and properties, kinds of optic fibers, methods of propagation light inside fiber and important parameters, which has undesirable effects, such as optic loss and dispesive influences. Next part was concentrated on transfer technologies, which where used for data transmission in operating networks. We talked about differences between technologies and describe the monitoring system, which was used for measuring parameters in operating network. The last part was focused on own measuring. We was measured the parameters in operating network CESNET2 and influence of the signal after connect optic monitoring probe. Measuring was implemented on optical network of Masaryk University in Brno (ÚVT MU).
Simultaneous bidirectional transfer of data and power supply over one fiber
Baura, Tomáš ; Šedivá, Soňa (referee) ; Havránek, Zdeněk (advisor)
This Bachelor’s Thesis deals with projecting and implementation of transmission systems using a single optical fibre for parallel bidirectional transmission of optical power and data signal. These systems include Polarization Division Multiplexing (PMD), Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM). The theoretical part of the thesis closely describes and specifies optical fibre, optical radiation sources and detectors as well as passive optical components suitable for transmission system implementation. Further, the thesis describes principles of individual transmission systems including a selection of particular optical and optoelectronic parts for the TDM and WDM transmission composition. Each chapter of the practical part of this document describes methods and processes used for individual measurements. First the individual parameters of individual optoelectronic and optical components of transmission systems are verified and characterized. This is followed by measuring the parameters of the composed TDM and WDM transmission systems such as optical loss, transmitted electric power efficiency, transfer speed etc. Finally, the possibility of outer optical signal detection on an integrated photodiode PIN of the laser diode is tested and verified, which could be used for both transmission and reception of data signal.
