Svitáková, Lucie ; Cihelková, Eva (advisor) ; Pluskalová, Eva (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to highlight the issue of poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa. In the first part I give the definition of poverty and indicators which are used for its measurement. It also determines the factors that lead to poverty in this area. The second part deals with the characteristics of the main problems that arise from the existence of poverty. It includes mainly a lack of access to basic needs, high debts and unequal opportunities in international trade. The last chapter focuses on some of the many tools that could lead to eradication of poverty such as the Millennium Development Goals, debt relief and the concept of Fairtrade. The paper draws upon both Czech and foreign books and Internet resources, especially the annual reports, statistics and databases of international institutions.
Debt relief process influence on least developed countries
Rosenkranc, Filip ; Němečková, Tereza (advisor) ; Řehořová, Veronika (referee)
Bachelor thesis examines the problem of external debt of developing countries and also the initiatives that try to solve this problem. The biggest part deals with two initiatives: HIPC (Heavily Indebted Poor Countries) and MDRI (Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative). I examine the process and evolution of these initiatives and also their results, whether total amnount of debt relief or the decrease of ratio debt indicators. I further examine the impact of debt relief processes on the participating countries, especially the increase in poverty reducing expenditures and whether the debt sustainability is reached. I emphasize critical views of these initiatives, current problems and issues that will need further attention. The debt relief process and its effects are demonstrated on the example of one particular country - Uganda.

Hvoždová, Vladimíra ; Němečková, Tereza (advisor) ; Adamcová, Lenka (referee)
The objective of the thesis was to evaluate the impact of debt relief on external debt sustainability and on economic and human development in Sub-Saharan Africa. While the first chapter describes trends in volume and structure of external debt of developing countries as a whole, including causes and impacts of high level of external indebtedness, the second chapter focuses on external indebtedness and its characteristic features of Sub-Saharan countries. The third chapter deals with the debt relief committed and delivered by official bilateral and multilateral creditors (Paris Club, Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative and Multilateral Debt Relief Initiative). The last chapter evaluates the impacts of debt relief on macroeconomic and human development indicators using an example of two least developed countries of Sub-Saharan Africa -- Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone.
