Current tendencies of bi-aspectual verbs in Czech
Hladíková, Barbora ; Chromý, Jan (advisor) ; Lehečková, Eva (referee)
This thesis is about Czech bi-aspectual verbs, more specifically about the bi-aspectual verbs of Czech origin and not about more often discussed verbs taken from foreign languages. The goal of this work is to evaluate if these verbs are perceived as bi-aspectual by the Czech speakers and also to check how the tests of the aspect work with bi-aspectual verbs. The analysis is realized by two acceptability judgements experiments. In the first experiment the verbs are being evaluated in the contexts requiring perfective or imperfective interpretation of the verb. In the second experiment the effect of context changes to the acceptability is examined and the knowledge about the semantics of the individual verbs is extended. Based on the results are formulated some limits of the tests of bi-aspectuality, categorization of the few verbs traditionally called as bi-aspectual is challenged and few semantics features enabling the bi-aspectuality are identified.
