Ethical aspect of coping with the death of a child or a partner.
ZACHAŘOVÁ, Petra
The bachelor thesis deals with ethical aspects of learning how to cope with the loss of a child, by taking into account an impact of ultimately losing one's own life partner. The bachelor thesis begins with a theoretical part, which is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter deals with the death of a child as the most painful parental loss, the second states the non-anticipated type of a loss, such as a sudden death of an infant, and the third refers to an expected death, or anticipated one. The fourth chapter focuses on general ethical aspects of coping with the death of a child which are further on elaborated in the following three chapters within a frame of separate, time-varying different periods of dying process of a child - stages pre finem, in finem a post finem. The empirical part is trying to answer the question: "Which ethical aspects play a role in coping with the death of a child?". It follows the path of qualitative research in order to acquire an answer to the question by personal case studies and data collected by semistructured interview techniques and evaluations by using open coding. The answer to the research question is the fact that in the pre finem stage, there are core ethical aspects of coping with the death of the child by revealing the truth and changing the lifestyle; in fine stage deals with an ritual aspect of death dilemma, as well as palliative care versus euthanasia and during post finem stage, there is an immediate care for the child's dead body associated with subsequent burial and mourning process, caring for the residuary and ethics of the media. The research group consists of a researched person chosen by self-selection, which first lost her son and soon after her husband as well. The bachelor thesis can serve as a source of comfort and inspiration for people who experience a painful loss, but may also help others in their surrounding who, eg. are at loss with the situation and do not know how to console the bereaved and how to communicate with them.

Pavelková, Monika ; Soukupová, Tereza (advisor) ; Hříbková, Lenka (referee)
The aim of the thesis is a close examination of spirituality and view of life among people who find themselves in the pre finem period. Spirituality is understood as a relation to sanctity of either religious or irreligious, intrinsic or extrinsic nature. Spirituality turns out to be of significance as a coping strategy, the means by which people come to terms with their illness and proximity to death. In this sense, we focus on the participants' search for the meaning of life, illness and death during the pre finem period. The basis of this thesis stems partly from the H. G. Koenig and K. L. Pargament's theory of religious coping. The belief in life after death, be it literal or symbolic, is understood as a coping strategy as well, with reference to Terror Management Theory or Meaning Management Theory. To evaluate the attitude towards illness and death we use the concept of five stages of grief developed by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross based on her clinical experience, and the theory of Wong, Reker and Gesser, the authors of Death Attitude Profile Revised questionnaire (DAP-R). Eleven patiens from Dobrý Pastýř in Čerčany and Svatý Štepán in Litoměřice hospices participated in the research in April - October 2012. The data of the study were collected using semi-structured interviews and a further...
