This is not about hieroglyphs. How the reconstruction of cuneiform origins contributes to the interpretation of Egyptian proto-writing objects?
Jeřábek, David ; Mynářová, Jana (advisor) ; Landgráfová, Renata (referee)
Present work aims to revive parts of the project of Denise Schmandt-Besserat in the context of Egyptian archaeology. Specifically it is guided by an effort to identify traces of the use of calculi as a means of data storage, or representation of things as subjects of records, or obligations. The effort is based on an assumption that such a practice (kind of non-textual marking system) might be (similarly as in Mesopotamia) place of the development of earliar stages of the ascent script.
