The role of paramedic in care on patient with acute stroke in pre-hospital care

The bachelor thesis describes the role of paramedics in care of a patient with an acute stroke in pre-hospital care. The thesis deals with the topic of stroke, its symptoms, its diagnosis, its medical treatment, as well as the role of paramedics on site of the incident. The theoretical part describes the anatomy of the cerebral arterial circle to simplify the understanding of what happens in case of stroke. Furthermore, this part focuses on the question of ischemic and haemorrhagic types of stroke. It describes the high-risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, neurological examination and the treatment within the pre-hospital care by paramedics. The transfer of patients suffering from a stroke into medical facility and their follow-up healthcare are introduced. Last part deals with the prognosis of the illness and the prevention of a stroke. The practical part consists of a qualitative research based on personal interviews, comprising of 27 questions. The research group is formed by 10 paramedics who have been working at Emergency Medical Services in South Bohemian Region. The analysis of collected data and the evaluation of the data are included as well. The aim of the thesis was to map the knowledge and working procedures of paramedics within the crew of paramedic services at an acute stroke.
