Naturalism in the writings of Baldomero Lillo and Eugenio Cambaceres
Michnová, Anna ; Poláková, Dora (advisor) ; Urbancová, Linda (referee)
The aim of my Bachelor's thesis is to describe naturalistic features in the works of Hispanic American writers Baldomero Lillo, Sub terra, and Eugenio Cambaceres, Sin rumbo and En la sangre. In the first part I define naturalism, its development, the main ideas of Émile Zola and form of naturalism in the literature of Hispanic America, in which in the second half of the nineteenth century various literary movements and tendencies were intermingled. The second part is devoted to the lives of the authors and the historical-social and economic conditions in Chile and Argentina, countries from which the authors come, and which are reflected in the described novels. In the second part I also summarize the most important findings about the literary style and production of the authors and I also deal with the analysis of the novels themselves. In my analyses I focus on the description of characteristic naturalistic traits, especially determinism, genetic and social, and decadence.
