Usage of alternative methods and natural products as means to increase immunity in the adult population of the Czech Republic
NEDBALOVÁ, Martina
For my diploma thesis I have chosen the topic of utilization of alternative methods and natural remedies as means of increasing immunity of the adult population of the Czech republic. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part I deal with the explanation of basic terms related to the immune system, function of the immune system and its division, namely to non-specific and specific immunity and further to humoral and cellular immunity. In a separate chapter I talk about natural resources and procedures that support the immune system. I touch on the effects of homeopathy, phytotherapy, hardening, gemmotherapy, forest therapy and the usage of the food supplements. The last chapter deals with the influence of lifestyle on the functioning of the immune system. I talk here mainly about things that have negative influence on the immune system, such as lack of physical activity, lack of sleep, substance abuse and I also mention the negative impact of excessive stress on human health. The theoretical part is followed by the practical park, for which I've set myself four main goals. The primary goal is to determine whether, and if so, what procedures and products are used by the adult population of the Czech republic to improve their immunity. Furthermore, I try to find out whether there are people in the population who visit general practicioner even when they catch just a common cold. The third goal is to find out what is the attitude of the adult population of the Czech republic towards the use of homeopatics for bolstering the immune system. The final goal of the thesis is to find out whether the are adults who used or are still regularly using some food supplement as a preventive measure for bolstering the immune system. Part of this thesis is a quantitative research based on the method of questioning. The questionnaire was compiled on the basis of my research assumptions and it was published online for anonymous completion. My diploma thesis can be used for better orientation in this problematics, as source of information concerning strengthening of immunity by natural means and last but not least also as a guide for direct application of some alternative ways into your lifestyle and thus strengthening your immunity.
The views of lay public on alternative medicine
Humpálová, Marie ; Hošťálková, Monika (advisor) ; Kordulová, Pavla (referee)

In recent years, we have heard more about alternative medicine and it is becoming more and more popular. Alternative medicine represents a significant part of human health care, but it does not have any rules or controls. Medical societies are not confronted with the problem unambiguously. The main aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyze the opinions of the lay public on alternative medicine. Partial goal # 1 is to map out whether individual types of alternative medicine are in the public eye. Another objective, ie goal 2, is to map out whether alternative medicine is being used, or what methods and the difficulties (determining the treatment phase). A non-standardized questionnaire was selected for the elaboration of the individual objectives, which was applied through the website www.vyplto.cz. The most prominent position in respondents' awareness of alternative medicine is acupressure. The most applied was homeopathy. The most common...
