Mirko Očadlík's Study "Woman in Czech Music" in the Context of the "Czech Woman in National History" Anthology (1940)

This bachelor thesis deals critically with the topic of the contemporary discourse on the status and professional involvement of women in Czech music, as formulated in Mirko Očadlík's study Woman in Czech Music [Žena v české hudbě] published in the Czech Woman in National History [Česká žena v dějinách národa] anthology (1940). In this thesis my critical aparatus is based on theoretical reflections of feminist musicology (a critique of the musical canon of Western art music tradition), cultural anthropology and feminist philosophy. The topic offers a range of other issues suitable for further research, and it also contributes to the debate on understanding the position of women in Czech music.
