The Role of a Social Worker in the System of Therapy of Multiple Sclerosis

The aim of this diploma thesis is to answer the main research question: What is the role of a social worker in the system of therapy of multiple sclerosis? The theses is divided into three parts - theoretical, methodological and interpretive one. The theoretical part contains the definition of relevant terms and it is divided into two chapters. The first of them focuses on multiple sclerosis its attributes and consequences, the second one follows it up with descriptions of individual parts and treatment options, including psychological and social support. The methodological part of the diploma thesis presents, the research strategy, sample selection and operationalized sub-questions. Qualitative research was used in the thesis, specifically the method of semi-structured interviews, which were conducted with two groups of respondents - social workers and people with multiple sclerosis. Data were processed using open coding and then were interpreted. The third part of the work is devoted to the interpretation and research results. The data was evaluated for each group of respondents separately. The final discussion is based on data from both groups of respondents.
