Intolerance lepku a její dopad na lidský organismus
Sedláková, Simona
Bachelor thesis The Gluten Intolerance and Its Influence on Human Body focuses on the problem of celiac disease. It is an autoimmune disorder which is caused by gluten and its storage proteins. Gluten is responsible for the damage of the small intestine in people who are genetically predisposed to the celiac disease. The damaged intestine cannot fully absorb the nutrients, which induces the malabsorption syndrome in the body and leads to hypovitaminosis. New findings in the research of celiac disease show the connection of celiac disease with disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, depression, etc. The health conditions of the patients with these disorders, as well as with the celiac disease, can be significantly improved when the patient follows a gluten-free diet, which is the only freely available treatment so far. However, there should be new methods of treatment available in the next few years. The new methods of treatment would include enzyme supplements, the injections of larazotide acetate, suitable probiotic preparations and also cereals that would contain less toxic peptide components of gluten.
Prevention of osteoporosis in malabsorption syndrome
Křížková, Ivana ; Zikán, Vít (advisor) ; Raška, Ivan (referee)
Introduction: The topic of this thesis is the Prevention of Osteoporosis in Malabsorption Syndrome. The thesis is divided into two parts; theoretical and practical. The theoretical work in the first part deals with osteoporosis and osteoporosis risk factors with a focus on nutritional factors. Osteoporosis is a systemic metabolic disease of the skeleton characterised by decreased bone mass and changes in the quality of bone tissue. The etiology of osteoporosis is multifactorial. Malabsorption syndrome causes the small intestine, which is essential for absorbing nutrients, to malfunction. In the second part of the theoretical work, attention is paid to malabsorption syndrome and diseases that lead to its development. Objective: The objective of this work is to draw a comparison between the intake of calcium and other important nutrients in relation to bone metabolism for people with lactose intolerance, and compare this with recommended values and a control group of people without lactose intolerance. Methods: Dietary habits were evaluated using a questionnaire method and a detailed analysis of a four-day diet. The Nutriservis Professional programme was used to evaluate diets (determine energy values, amount of essential nutrients, fibre, calcium, plus other minerals and vitamins). Bone mineral...

Quality of life of Adults with Celiac Disease
ILKÓOVÁ, Václava
The thesis for this baccalaureate work theoretically and practically deals with issues of the lives of adults with Celiac Disease. The aim of my work was to find out how this disorder affects people{\crq}s lives in terms of health, as well as their psychological, economic and social conditions. In the theoretical part of this thesis, I described the origin, symptoms, signs, epidemiology and treatment of Celiac Disease. I have also discussed associated health and social problems. In the practical part I used a questionnaire, according to the quantitative method of research. The investigated group comprised 82 adults with Celiac Disease (71 women, 11 men), who were determined by random selection. All of the data I have obtained has been transferred into diagrams and results were expressed as percentage values. The questions were aimed at respondents{\crq} dealings with their specific problems. I found that people with Celiac Disease in the Czech Republic do suffer from health problems, but not as much as from the many restrictions in their eating habits and social life, which may lead to some resulting psychological problems. In addition, the Gluten-Free Diet is very expensive for a majority of people, who have no financial compensation from the state, while in many countries in Europe such compensation is common. Regarding the Czech governments{\crq} approach to those who suffer with celiac disease, while they are in the process of reaching European standards, the role of support groups in all mentioned problems is important. Accordingly, the results of my work will be submitted to the Czech Society for Gluten-Free Diet.
