Lending Money in Roma Communities: The Problems of Credit Granted by Legal Entities to Socially Deprived Clients with Subsistence Level Income

The problem of money-lending became a point of interest for ethnologists in the mid-1990s in connection with the so-called "loansharking", usury or moneylending at inadequately high interest, which became extremely abundant among natural persons in the early 1990s, particularly in Slovakia. The high-interest loans occurred within Roma communities.
