The Election of Polish King August II the Strong in the Point of View of Habsburg Envoys
KONRÁDOVÁ, Monika
The bachelor´s thesis presents a new point of view on the elections of the Polish king in the years 1696-1697. It is based on the correspondence of Ferdinand of Schwarzenberg with an imperial envoy in Poland Charles Julio Sedlnicky of Choltice and with the Silesian count Christopher Václav of Nostitz that is preserved in the Schwarzenberg Family Archives in the satellite office of the State Regional Archives Třeboň in Český Krumlov. The aim of the thesis is to interpret the correspondents' reception of the new Polish king elections which lasted more than one year. The first chapter describes methodological bases of the thesis, used resources and the choice of bibliography. The second chapter focuses on the reception of the Polish interregnum in the messages of Charles Julio of Choltice and in the personal diary of Ferdinand of Schwarzenberg. The next part of the work deals with the analysis of the situation and the development of events following the election of two kings of Poland - Friedrich August of Silesia and Francois Louis de Conti. The analysis is based on the point of view of Christopher Václav of Nostitz. The last chapter treats the opinions of both correspondents of Ferdinand of Schwarzenberg as well as his own opinion on the two participants of the king elections but also his opinion on Polish people in general. The main contribution of the thesis is the complex picture of the longest interregnum in the Polish history seen by three noblemen of the Danubian Monarchy.
