In recent years, the health and psychological problems of horses that are related to the way of housing are perceived. In the Czech Republic breeders are becoming aware of an active housing system. The result of the work is, based on the acquired knowledge of the natural characteristics and needs of horses, the proposal of a project of an active housing system for twenty horses in the locality of South Bohemia. The technology makes it possible to keep all horses in the system together despite the different feed and movement requirements. With detachable chips attached to the underside of the horse's forelegs, management is set up by the breeder in the software that controls the feed ration and the rate of movement of the housed horse individually. It has been found that the system of active housing is suitable for most breeds and also for the differently exploited individuals. It is not advisable to accommodate the horse with a fine to weak constitution due to the poor adaptability of the external conditions. Acquisition costs for realization according to a concrete project proposal were estimated to be less than CZK 3,000,000. These include, in particular, technology, construction and surface costs. The return is 11 years. List of the most important advantages of the housing system: for horses - natural movement in fresh air, herd social contact, long-term feed intake after small doses reducing the risk of colic, thanks to the variety of surfaces of healthy hooves, strengthens the overall immunity, for horse owners - reduce costs for veterinarians, farms, keeping a horse in good physical condition and psychological well being, for breeders - increasing work efficiency, reducing strenuous manual labor, saving and improving feed utilization.

This bachelor thesis analyzes the problems with colic diseases in horses, other words - equine colic. Causes of these diseases, sympthoms and ways of treatment. It also deals with the dividing into particular forms of equine colic, because there are more forms of this disease. Once again this work is describing causes, sympthoms a treatment of each form of equine colic. The thesis is also focusing on general context, such as description of the digestive tract of horses, and how digesting works. Finally this work is describing technologies of feeding and water supplying, because problems with this are often related with the causes of equine colic. In the thesis is also mentioned costs of treatment of equine colic. The theoretical part is summed up in few general advices for owners. The thesis concludes a description of economical demands of specific business, in this case Statek Doubravka.

Analysis, treatment and prevention of colic disease of horses

This bachelor thesis is about equine colic diseases, which are frequent subject of discussion. Considerable part of the thesis is dedicated to digestive tract of equine and to nutrition. Considered the range of the thesis, there are described chosen diseases of stomach, small intestine, appendix, small and large columns, rectum etc. with colic symptoms. Thesis is analysing a prevalence of equine and causes that are leading to illness, such as abdominal pain. Another part is about first aid that are owners and medical assistants able to provide to their horses and then clinical examination made by veterinary doctor. These pages are dealing with conservative and chirurgical treatment and subsequent recovery. Necessary part is prevention of colic diseases. Due to zootechnics field of study is thesis taken from the breeding point of view.

Next target, after reading the literature, is to find a conclusion, why occurrence of colic diseases is such a frequent problem. What reasons are triggering the colic and if we can lower the number of colic cases.
Selected issue is a large topic, for the nature of the thesis it cannot be described in the full range, therefore the author described the main information in a brief text, leading directly to the subject, which were necessary for understanding the issues. From the studied sources was find out, that even that there are many anatomical peculiarities, source of colic diseases is unfortunately mostly caused by inadequate care of horses from their owners and caregivers. Minimalizing these risks depends on the level of particular breed and is completely necessary to take care of its prevention.
