Čornyjová, Veronika ; Krajňáková, Lenka (advisor) ; Bernhäuserová, Veronika (referee)
This thesis aims to identify the most common errors of pre-service geography teachers when making a map of an ideal island, which is one of the assignments in the compulsory course entitled Cartography (for teachers). The theoretical part of the thesis presents current findings about map-making skills with a focus on university students and describes the main principles of map creation. Followingly, the thesis characterizes various methods for map evaluation with a focus on criterion evaluation. Within this chapter, previous relevant studies are presented as well. The empirical part focuses on process and the results of the analysis of map of an ideal island that were created by the students in the academic year 2021/2022. A total of 221 maps was evaluated. For clarity, the evaluation criteria were divided into four groups (Topographic background, Thematic content, Other compositional elements, Labelling and others). The results showed that the total frequency of errors decreases with every attempt and the most problematic criteria are evenly distributed in all four groups. Moreover, it was found that students' knowledge of maps, map-making skills, and art skills might influence the final map quality. The usability of the educational game for the cartography education in lower-secondary schools
Zýma, Marek ; Krajňáková, Lenka (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
The presented thesis focuses on the usability testing of the educational game Map of an imaginary island for teaching cartography, which was created by the same author in 2020. The work also briefly introduces the game concept, including a description of its individual components and their functions. To improve clarity, the thesis firstly reviews the literature related to educational methods, particularly didactic games, then the issue of usability, its significance, and application in product testing is presented. The research section of the thesis aims to subject the educational game to usability testing, examining the perspectives of both pupils and teachers on its use and identifying the most significant shortcomings, which are then addressed in a separate chapter. The research was conducted using the two most common methods used in general product testing, i.e., questionnaire surveys and interviews with users. The research results showed that the game is a welcome addition to teaching, with rules that are understandable for both pupils and teachers, evoking a pleasant feeling in them, and despite its gaming nature, maintaining a clear didactic purpose. However, in some cases, there were problems with correct solving of various tasks, mainly due to pupils' age. As mentioned earlier, the thesis...
