Arms and equestrian equipment in the 8th−10th-century Central Europe. Arms as artefacts and grave goods in the Moravian Slavs and their neighbours

This volume is a collection of 25 conference papers dealing with the arms and equestrian equipment in the East and Central Europe between the 8th and 10th centuries. It brings a wide variety of issues, from typology and chronology through manufacturing technology and a practical application of artefacts to the general questions of medieval warfare. It presents finds both from the settlement and grave contexts. The predominant archaeological perspective is completed by historical and other studies, including a scientific experiment.
Variability of grave goods in female burials in the middle La Téne period in Bohemia

Presented diploma thesis is devoted to the analysis of the female graves of the La Tène period in Bohemia, more particularly it relates to quantity, material and placement of every objects of the grave goods. Observed variability indicates time, regional and in some mesure social differences which influenced the composition of the grave set. Within the comparison, the graves from Moravia, Slovakia and Austria have been also taken into consideration.
Roman Lamps From Cemeteries in Gerulata (Rusoviec)

This catalogue documents Roman lamps from the cemeteries of Gerulata (modern-day Rusovce). It consists of 16 Bildlapmen, 89 Firmalampen, and one special shape. These lamps were found mainly in two large cemeteries, in both cremation and inhumation graves, dated from the last decades of the 1 st century AD to the dawn of the 3rd century. Of the Bildlampen, several lamps with angular voluted nozzles (Loeschcke type I) and one fragment of a circular lamp with a rounded nozzle (Loeschcke type VIII) are represented. Of the Firmalampen, both Loeschcke types IX and X are found, type X and its variations being the most numerous (67 lamps). The iconography of relief decorations shows a range of mythological and profane images. Twenty different makers' stamps in relief are found, two without parallels, with Fortis as most common. The production, transport and copying of Firmalampen is described; resulting endeavors to locate their point of origin are determined to be often unreliable without chemical analysis. Both the relationship of lamps to other grave goods as well as their purpose in graves are assessed; lamps are found to have been an available luxury, as appropriate in a Romanized society. The burial rite of the Late Hillfort Peroid in southern Bohemia

Late Hillfort Period burial rites in southern Bohemia Early Middle Ages, burial rite, burial equipment Bachelor thesis focuses on the characteristics of Late Hillfort Period burial rites in the territory of southern Bohemia. The work offers a list of cemeteries, which are presented in terms of archaeological research and description of individual finds. The obtained findings are analysed and compared with already documented burial practices in the Czech Republic.
