Hand disinfection from the point of view of nurses
VRZÁKOVÁ, Karolína
Hygienic hand disinfection is one of the basic measures to prevent healthcare associated infections. The principles of hygienic hand disinfection are laid down by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. By following the procedures of hygienic hand disinfection, the health of not only the patients but also the healthcare personnel is protected. The issue of hygienic hand disinfection is often mentioned, but compliance can be a problematic aspect. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the issue of hygienic hand disinfection and related areas. This is the area of indications for hygienic hand disinfection and the procedure, which in practice may hide deficiencies. The thesis also mentions disinfectants and the topic of jewellery and nail treatment, which is also crucial in terms of the quality of the hygienic hand disinfection performed. The use of alcoholic disinfectants can cause skin manifestations and it is necessary to take care of the skin of the hands. Hygienic hand disinfection is a global topic and has been the subject of many studies. This thesis is enriched by a number of them. Health care-associated infections are closely related to hygienic hand disinfection. The theoretical part of the thesis also focuses on this. In the research part of the thesis, the data obtained by observation and subsequent interview technique are processed. The objectives of the thesis are to find out the problem areas of implementation of hygienic hand disinfection among general nurses, to find out the reasons for non-adherence to hygienic hand disinfection among general nurses and to find out the recommendations of general nurses for adherence to hygienic hand disinfection. The study population consisted of general nurses of a standard ward of a selected regional hospital.
The role of nurses in follow-up and long-term intensive care
ŠNOKHAUSOVÁ, Anna
The diploma thesis entitled "The role of nurses in follow-up and long-term intensive care", consists of a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part deals with a detailed departments description and explains the roles nurses fulfill in their profession. The aim of this work was to map the roles performed by nurses working in follow-up and long-term intensive care units and which of the roles they believe is the most important. In order to achieve that goal, a research investigation in the form of qualitative research was chosen. The empirical part of the diploma thesis was processed using the technique of semi-structured interviews with nurses who work in these departments throughout the Czech Republic. The research was carried out in January 2023. As part of the research, ten interviews were conducted with general nurses, nurses with a university degree or nurses with a professional specialization. After conducting and processing the interview in the MAXQDA 2022 program, the interviews were analyzed using data categorization and subsequent coding. The research shows that nurses know the basic roles, can specify them, but in practice they are not very aware of their fulfillment. The roles of nurses are intertwined, and thanks to them, nurses can adequately meet the needs of the patient.
Risk factors at public health work: differences among professions in non-medical fields
LAŠTOVKOVÁ, Marie
The paper focuses on health risk factors for non-medical healthcare workers, namely general nurses and radiology assistants. Factors which may have negative impacts on healthcare workers{\crq} health affect both physical and mental health. Factors such as toxic substances, biological radiation, infectious diseases and spine and joints overloading caused by the incorrect manipulation with patients can have negative impact on physical health. Both physical and mental health is affected by stress, as well as by workers{\crq} lifestyle and education. Healthcare workers who take care of patients must be in a good physical and mental shape in order to provide quality care. Therefore, the goal of healthcare workers themselves, as well as of their employer, should be obtaining sufficient information on work safety and hygienic measures and being able to use the information in practice - they should actively participate in prevention of health damage related to the performance of their profession. The first hypothesis {--} non-medical healthcare workers are informed about risk factors associated with the performance of their profession - was confirmed. The second hypothesis - there are differences in the presence of risk factors among non-medical healthcare workers - was also confirmed; differences in the occurrence of some risk factors are clearly visible. Different healthcare professions should therefore be approached in a targeted way, with respect to the type of workplace and job description of healthcare workers. The third hypothesis {--} non-medical healthcare workers comply with preventive measures preventing health damage - was not confirmed. One of the reasons why hypotheses 1 and 2 were confirmed may be the fact that increased attention has been paid to this topic recently - standards have been made, and consequently also targeted audits. These measures have usually a positive impact - healthcare workers have gradually realized that safety measures are not useless, and by obeying them, healthcare workers protect not only patient and their surrounding, but especially themselves.
