Bachalor's thesis „Study of Sediment Transport, Flood Protection and Outline of Flood Plan in Chosen Part of the River Thaya“ is divided into four parts. In the first one, I describe chosen part of the river Thaya from the Nové Mlýny to the Břeclav weir with focus on geographic, geological and hydrogeological conditions, hydrotechnical structures and river adjustments, biota and protected areas, demography and Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape. In the second part, I determine, by bed load samples granulometric analysis, the source of sediments, which appeard under the Břeclav weir. In the third part, I describe chosen area from the view of flood protection, I describe historical floods and I assess capacity of chosen problematic profiles using HEC-RAS program. In the last part, I focus on flood protection of the village Lednice and of the part of Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, I describe problems of this area in context of flood protection and I suggest outline of the Flood Plan of the Village Lednice.

Splaveninová study of a selected flow
Zouhar, Radim ; Maleňák,, Jaroslav (referee) ; Veselý, Jaroslav (advisor)
The bachelor thesis focuses on determination of sediments amount in Svitava river and Křtinský potok, which flows into Svitava river in Adamov. Elements are sedimented at the riverbed bottom if the resulting force caused by the water stream on particles is smaller than the gravitational force. Elements can get into the stream both by washing from surrounding terrain and by material erosion of the riverbed which happens more frequently. Therefore another part of this thesis is suggesting of suitable stabilization measures and flood protection of selected objects. The capacity of riverbeds becomes smaller due to their sedimentation. Particle-size characteristics of sediment runoffs have been prepared and thus the amount of sediment runoffs has been calculated and critically evaluated.
Scope and impact of floods in the river basin Polečnice
MAXA, Václav
The preparation of the bachelor thesis includes the collection of information on the issue, especially the theoretical part focuses on the study of legislation and the use of Internet resources. The aim of the author in the theoretical part is to explain important concepts in the field of flood and related topics. The individual chapters focus, for example, on the flow of the Polečnice river, types of floods in our country, levels of flood activity, legislation in the field of floods, as well as preparations for floods and warning the population. The practical part contains a description of the Český Krumlov district and the floodplain of the Polečnice river, then the two biggest modern floods in our country are described, namely the devastating floods of 2002 and 2013. Furthermore, the modification of the riverbed of the Polečnice river, which served to create the necessary flood protection measures on the Polečnice river. And last but not least, a questionnaire survey. In the questionnaire survey 100 sheets with 12 questions were evaluated. The questions focused on the general overview of the citizens of Český Krumlov about the flood issue and their awareness of situations caused by floods, such as protection of health, lives and property, related warnings to the population and their evacuation. And whether they are aware of the threat of danger from the Polečnice river, which at first glance may not seem dangerous at all. The evaluated data indicate that the inhabitants of Český Krumlov rather underestimate the risk of floods in the town of Český Krumlov. Some inhabitants do not even know that partial flood protection measures have been carried out on the Polečnice in the recent past. The only positive thing I see is that nowadays, thanks to the technology we have, citizens have the opportunity to get information about the situation quickly and thus be better and more quickly prepared for a possible emergency.
The activity of the integrated rescue system during floods in a village with extended powers
DUŠKOVÁ, Denisa
The main topic of the bachelor's thesis is the floods in 2002 and 2013 in the entire affected area of the Czech Republic and also in the village with extended powers of Vodňany. The activities of the relevant authorities and the population were evaluated, focusing on the extent of the evacuation and the progress of the basic and other components of the integrated rescue system. The theoretical part begins by defining important legislation for this topic, which is a basic pillar here. Furthermore, this section contains a description of the integrated rescue system, flood authorities and individual measures before and during the flood. There is also a simple explanation of the term "evacuation" and the last chapters of the theoretical part include the floods in 2002, 2013 and the flood situation in Europe in 2021, because in each country the intensity of floods, their consequences, course, but also the progress of rescue services and the attitude of the population varies more or less. The scenario is not always the same, and it is important to know how other countries will deal with a living disaster of this magnitude. The practical part focused on a detailed description of the content of the Digital Flood Plan of the town of Vodňany, a breakdown and assessment of the activities of the authorities and the integrated rescue system during the floods in 2002 and 2013 in Vodňany and finding out the knowledge and preparedness of the Vodňany population on the topic of floods. The results of this survey were developed into graphs. Based on the acquired knowledge, it can be stated that there are obvious shortcomings in the knowledge of the citizens of Vodňany on the topic of floods.
Flood protection and flood plans on selected basin of the Lužnice river
KUKAČKOVÁ, Lucie
The thesis consists of two parts - the theoretical outline and the research. The theoretical section describes in general the topic of floods, protection of the population against floods, flood control measures, flood plans and legislation related to floods. The last chapter of the theoretical section is focused specifically on the Lužnice river and the affected municipalities, in which qualitative research took place. These are the villages of Vlkov, Veselí nad Lužnicí, Dráchov and Soběslav. In order to fulfil the aim of this thesis, it was necessary to acquire not only flood plans of the affected municipalities, but also other non-public documents, and to thoroughly analyze and compare them with each other. Based on this analysis and comparison, information was compiled concerning flood protection measures in the municipalities, where the investigation took place. This comprehensive information is presented in chapter 'Results'. During the qualitative research, several errors and shortcomings were uncovered in the flood plans of municipalities in the Lužnice river basin. Shortcomings were discovered mainly in the continuity of flood plans and in the absence of endangered objects, which should be listed in flood plans. These objects pose anthropogenic risks to municipalities. Others shortcomings were found in food plans updates. These updates should be performed regulary but this is not happen in practice. For example food plan of the village Vlkov is 22 years old and has been update only once. During the examination of the official websites of the municipalities, other shortcomings were found in the information available to the population. The actual investigation and analysis of the flood plans provided an answer to the research question. Individual flood plans and flood control measures are not in concord.
Calm and wild river; An etnography study around the Otava river
Mottlová, Tereza ; Kuřík, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Sosna, Daniel (referee)
In this diploma thesis I wanted to find out how people who live in a close relationship with the river deal with the extremes like are floods and drought. I wondered if local settlers and the city administration identified the threat of flood differently from people who did not live in contact with the river, and if their relationship with the river could be useful for others. I tried to find out if and how the locals reflect climate change through their lived experiences with floods and droughts. During my six-month research, based on ethnographic methods I spent time with gardeners who have been critically affected by drought in recent years, with settlers who regularly experience floods and with representatives of the city administration. Thanks to ethnography, I was able to understand the context of the relationships I studied. I found out that living in contact with floods is not as dramatic as it may seem to an observer. Thanks to many years od experience with floods and the river have the locals developed local knowledge, that can be very useful for whole city; If the city administration can combine expert and local knowledge, solving potential problems with high water can become much more effective and proportionate to reality. People living under the threat of floods do not need to be seen...
