Kulturní průmysly v ČR: Audiovizuální a mediální sektor 2014

Analytický text s názvem Kulturní průmysly v ČR volně navazuje na publikaci Kulturní zařízení v ČR, kterou Český statistický úřad vydával v minulých letech a která se zaměřovala na tradiční kulturní oblasti formou prezentace převzatých dat. Nová publikace nese podtitul Audiovizuální a mediální sektor, jenž více konkretizuje oblast analýzy. Český statistický úřad sbírá každoročně data od poskytovatelů rozhlasového a televizního vysílání v rámci výkazů Kult. Právě myšlenka využití těchto dat a jejich propojení s výstupy z relevantních šetření ČSÚ vedla ke vzniku této publikace. Ta vedle rozhlasového a televizního vysílání sleduje také oblast filmu, hudby, videoher, knih a tisku, tedy oblasti spadající do tzv. kulturního průmyslu, definovaného dle zavedeného trojsektorového vymezení oblasti kultury.

Media content organization and solutions in JavaFX

The bachelor thesis looks into changes in television and movie audience behavior. Increas-ing amount of TV shows and movies in user media library brings new needs those files properly organize a record which one has been already watched by user. Software solution must abide audience custom and allow smooth transition from slowly degrading television audience to new, more interactive one. Current offer on market of media organization software is broad, but it is important to focus in detail on functions of those applications and verify if they truly meet all set requirements, or if they are robust application software, which can be not very user-friendly for common user. Custom solution in Java using brand new user interface library JavaFX 8, which goal is to bring basic framework of possibilities of solving media organization for future programmers.
"The Bestseller Effect": Stávají se z úspěšných knih kasovní trháky kin?

The thesis investigates a connection between the publishing industry and the film industry. It analyses whether films based on best-selling books have higher revenues and return on investment compared to films based on unsuccessful books or original scripts. Data for years 2009 -- 2015, focusing on the U.S. entertainment industry, show that film adaptations of best-selling books reach higher revenues during their opening weekend of the theatrical release. The Bestseller Effect weakens once the information about film's quality becomes available to the audience. The success of a book plays negligible role in film's returns on investment. The results of analysis also show great positive significant impact of the production budget, the star cast, films quality and sequels on the films'financial performance.
And the winner is... The presence of political slant in the movie production

I study movie studio profit maximization based on an optimization of a political language in the dialogues. I explore the flexibility with which a rational firm slants language of its movies in order to get closer either to a Democratic or a Republican customer. Using computational linguistics I construct vectors of phrase frequency distribution based on a text of almost a decade of U.S. Congress transcripts and 457 randomly chosen movie subtitles. In order to measure distance between the phrase vectors I use chi square statistics and its Monte Carlo approximation. I find no evidence of political slant in movies neither in a movie studio comparison nor for a time-varying comparison of movies in different years. In addition I construct a slant index covering level of political language in a movie. Using the index I find no evidence of impact of political language on movie revenues.
Fictional languages

The thesis aims to map and describe so called ?fictional languages? which we can find in contemporary fiction literature, cinematography and TV shows. The most popularare: Elvish languages Quenya and Sindarin by J. R. R. Tolkien, Klingon language from the TV show Star Trek, Ancient language from fantasy books by Christopher Paolini, Newspeak from George Orwell?s novel 1984, Nadsat language used by teens in Clockwork Orange novel and the new Dothraki language used in the TV show Game of Thrones. The objective of this work is comparing of the most popular fictive languages and an assessment whether and how is it possible to use given languages in communication.
The Presentation Options of the Commencing Producers on the Festival Markets

The thesis introduces the scope of possibilities a commencing producer can engage while developing a feature film. The four ground producer activities on the festival or film market are put into context of the changing nature of the festival world in Europe's region.
French Film Festival in Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis analyses the French film festival which already has its tradition in the Czech Republic. Its first part targets the past years and summarizes the history of the festival. It includes also a characteristics of organisation, conception and goals of this cinemeeting. Next part of this thesis focuses on last year's festival which was fifteenth in a row. It analyses its programme, authors and films themselves. The last part sums up the organisation and ways of promotion including partners and sponsors of the festival. In conclusion, it is focused on evaluation of festival's benefits to spread French culture in the Czech Republic. The thesis includes the extensive summary in French.

In this paper I tried to cover existing body of work of French film director Bruno Dumont. In his five feature films I tried to find common motives to examine the specificity of his work. What are the film tools he uses to address the spectator and what is the purpose. I identified the dominant motives as four philosophical categories: body, territory, awaken one self, guilt.

Jan Svankmajer has been repeatedly derived images of people who repress freedom of individuals and the oppressed people from several literary works and writings in his films. In this regard, 'Lunacy' is one of the representative works. This paper analyzes his perspective on freedom focusing on his film 'Lunacy' which crammed with motifs and symbols of freedom and repression, insanity and punishment. Perhaps people of our current era may find something in common with the oppressed characters in the old novels. It is a search for the answer of the abstract question, 'What is freedom?' borrowing and sharing an individual, Jan Svankmajer's vision.
