The usability of the educational game for the cartography education in lower-secondary schools

The presented thesis focuses on the usability testing of the educational game Map of an imaginary island for teaching cartography, which was created by the same author in 2020. The work also briefly introduces the game concept, including a description of its individual components and their functions. To improve clarity, the thesis firstly reviews the literature related to educational methods, particularly didactic games, then the issue of usability, its significance, and application in product testing is presented. The research section of the thesis aims to subject the educational game to usability testing, examining the perspectives of both pupils and teachers on its use and identifying the most significant shortcomings, which are then addressed in a separate chapter. The research was conducted using the two most common methods used in general product testing, i.e., questionnaire surveys and interviews with users. The research results showed that the game is a welcome addition to teaching, with rules that are understandable for both pupils and teachers, evoking a pleasant feeling in them, and despite its gaming nature, maintaining a clear didactic purpose.
