Jakubec, Radim ; Válová, Karolina (advisor) ; Svobodová, Petra (referee)
This bachelor's thesis aims to provide a comprehensive overview of fantastic motifs in the novel Blank gaze (Nenhum olhar, 2001) by the Portuguese writer José Luís Peixoto. In addition to the fantastic motifs and a shorter summary of the novel's plot, the bachelor's thesis presents the relevant literary concept of the fantastic and its essentials from prominent literary critics from various literary-historical periods; theoretical conclusions of Roger Caillois ("Imagenes, Imagenes...Ensayos sobre la función y los poderes de la imaginación," 1970), H.P. Lovecraft (Supernatural Horror in Literature, 1927), Tzvetan Todorov (Introduction to Fantastic Literature, 1970), and Jaime Alazraki (¿What is the Neofantastic?, 2001) are used in the work. The work is further expanded with chapters dealing with the facts abouth the researched novel and author's life, which further deepen the informative scope of the work.
