New synagogue Česká Lípa

The topic of the diploma thesis is an architectural study of the new synagogue in Česká Lípa. The proposed solution aims to create a complex which serves the local Jewish community and other visitors. The building contains the temple itself, including a mikveh, community administration, workshop space, lecture hall, library, kosher restaurant, and underground parking. The original synagogue was located in the defined area. The design consists of a clear geometry, which creates an open courtyard, in which the almond tree associated with the Tu Tu-shvat holiday is symbolically planted. The courtyard creates a quiet and welcoming space, which is isolated from the negative effects of the surrounding environment. The building is divided into three parts - the synagogue itself, the administrative background of the Jewish community and a kosher restaurant. The shape of the synagogue differs from the rest of the complex. It consists of a rectangular shape that ends in a semicircle. Its entire volume is oriented to the east and is rotated against to the rest of the building and its mass partially encloses the courtyard. The temple space is illuminated by a window that runs around the entire temple. The semicircular shape is further copied into the interior, where it flows smoothly into the gallery. The overall geometry of the space is supported by a circular bima, above which is hung a chandelier made of gilded steel construction and crystal glass. The tract of the restaurant has a concrete slab, which creates a lee for the entrance and at the same time covers the outdoor terrace. The windows are placed at regular intervals to promote the overall dignity of the designed building. The design also includes a fountain and a memorial to the burnt-out synagogue. The monument is in the northern part next to the synagogue and its mass defines the imaginary boundary of public and semi-public space.
