The development of the information society for improving the competitiveness of the European Union

The society of the 21. century is changing from industrial to information society.This highly dynamic process started many changes in all aspects of peoples lives - the extension of knowledge, social interaction, economics, business administration, politics, media, health. The development of the information society is in a progress under high speed and demands higher knowledge and qualification of the citizens, mainly in the area of working with information and communication technologies. People have to adapt to these radical changes quickly, do decisions fast and accurately, because this is what has the biggest impact on success, competitiveness, and sometimes also survival. Therefore it is necessary to allow access to the internet, information technologies and education for everyone, so that everyone will be able to benefit from the advantages the information society brings. The result will be higher level of education, comprehension of the weaker social groups to society, growth of productivity and employment, better services, inovations and effective use of public facilities.
