Mladá, Pavlína ; Havlová, Radka (advisor) ; Werner, Jan (referee)
Mexico is facing a complicated problem of not only a drug production, but also being labelled the position of the most significant transit country for the drug commerce from South America to the USA. Each country has its own role namely as the Mexico the main supplier and USA the main consumer. The bachelor thesis is addressing the american-mexican relations since the beginning of the year 2006 when the drug war in Mexico was started. The main goal of the thesis is to examine the measures of the american-mexican cooperation in the elimination of the organized crime during the time period and to compare what results it brought and if it was successful. The next goal is to define the security situation in Mexico during the period and to compare the remedies of the Mexican presidents.

The focus of my thesis is to analyze the transformation of Mexican migration since 2007/2008. I argue these years have been a turning point in the dynamics of migration for two reasons. Firstly, in 2007 the American economy turned into recession, which significantly affected the flow of unauthorized migration. Secondly, in 2008 the drug related violence in Mexico spiked dramatically. This had a deterrent effect on the unauthorized...

The approaches of the mexican presidents Felipe Calderón (2006 -- 2012) and Enrique Peňa Nieto (2012 -- present) to the so called "drug war" in Mexico are the main topic of this bachelor's thesis. The "drug war" fully broke out in Mexico in the year 2006 and it has been a considerable threat to the country's stability and security. Main object of the thesis is to find and judge differences between the two president's approaches to the fight against the drug trafficking organizations. It also tries to answer the question if president Nieto is returning to the old practeces of the political party he is a member of and which used to tolerate the drug cartels in the past or not. The thesis firstly explains the strong position of a president in presidential political systems, next it sums up the historical developement of mexican political system and its current shape and afterwards it describes the programs and the main decisions of both of the presidents. In conclusion, programs and actions concerning the fight against drug trafficking organizations of president Calderón and president Nieto are compared and the main differences among them are expressed.
