IMPACTS OF ECONOMIC CRISIS TO CZECH THEATRE
Chrdle, Milan ; LÁZŇOVSKÝ, Michal (advisor) ; ČUŘÍKOVÁ, Tamara (referee)
This master's thesis describes the real impact of the financial crisis on the theatre. Both on the theatre as a discipline, and on the individual theatre groups. In the first part, the work points out the general causes of the financial crisis. It also describes its influence on the economy of Czech republic and associated revenues of the state budget. On the example of Prague's and selected regional theatres, the paper tries to define the impacts of the economic recession, and describes methods how theatres are dealing with an unfavourable situation. One part of the thesis consists of a questionnaire survey carried out among the representatives of theatre subjects, as well as among the audiences. The work deliberately avoids comparisons with the impacts of the financial crisis on other theatres in other countries, as the conditions of their existence are diametrically opposed, regardless of the crisis.
Change of theatre management
Němečková, Tereza ; PROKOP, Petr (advisor) ; PLAMÍNEK, Jiří (referee)
In which way lead a successful change of theatre management? This research question has stood at the beginning of my diploma thesis. The role of a theatre manager and its managerial features are concerned in this paper. I trace a process of change in a theatre management in tree case studies (the theatres "Na zábradlí", "pod Palmovkou" and "na Vinohradech"). The findings are analysed in the context of artistic, public, but also commercial sector. The case works serve as a means of formulation of so called "Lessons Learned": generalisations of key moments and barriers of successful change which are derived form concrete cases. The need of managerial approach in a theatre management results from the problems described above. The aim of this thesis is to argue for such an approach which understands management as a particular proficiency with its regular place within the art world. Since the environment of subsidized organisations is concerned, it is important not to omit the influence of founder as an agent of change. I assume, that we will face up to open competitions for theatre directors instead of system changes. The crucial aim of this thesis is to identify a process of change, to apprehend its critical points and offer some possible solutions. The second aim is to contribute to a debate on the need of managerial approach in a management of art organisations.

Krenčíková, Eva ; SRSTKA, Jiří (advisor) ; KOFROŇ, Petr (referee)
Following thesis on opera ensemble of South Bohemian Theatre should bring comparison between current repertory system, potential so-called semi-stagione (this mode is thought to be set after transformation of this opera ensemble) and stagione mode that is typical for running opera production abroad. The main aim of the thesis is to analyse these models and evaluate them regarding economic, artistic and organizational point of view. Although it is focused on South Bohemian Theatre in Ceske Budejovice, there are more opera ensembles in regions facing the same problem and asking the same question: which would be the most effective model of running our business?
Prague theaters in the profit sector
Jordan, Hanuš ; PROKOP, Petr (advisor) ; SRSTKA, Jiří (referee)
This thesis is mainly focused on a detailed study of three theatres in profitable bussiness sector in Prague. Considering sensitive nature of the economic data, some of the information about the for-profit theatres presented below are actually published for the first time. The author also studies Mestska divadla prazska (City Theatres of Prague), a contributory organisation of the city of Prague. On academic level, the author of this work suggests a dissolution of the union of the City Theatres of Prague. He proposes that the space of once freed ABC Theatre should be rented to a new keeper with a profitable legal personality. Thanks to this, the city of Prague would get considerable financial savings and could keep maintenance of the representative theatre in the very center of metropolis at the same time. The author actually offers three possible models of operations for this newly-emerged subject. He prepared programming and budgets for two theatre seasons for the three cases. In the last chapter he considers the most eligible model. Is it possible to run this bussiness model with profit? On what conditions?
