Compulsory drug treatment

Background: Compulsory drug treatment could be imposed by court in case the offender commits a crime while he was intoxicated or his acting was otherwise connected to drugs. There must be a real hope, that this kind of treatment could have any positive results as well considering individuality and motivation of the offender. The professionals in the Czech republic are questioning meaning and efficiency of this kind of treatment for drug users. These doubt are based on fact, that persons which are mandated to treatment by court have a very low level of motivation to treatment and try to escape from institution or otherwise break the rules. Objective: aim of this study is to determine what beliefs and attitudes manifested staff of psychiatric hospitals in relation to compulsory drug treatment with consideration of its legal framework and efficiency. Methods: In this study was applied qualitative approach. Data was collected by semi- structured interview, then transcribed and the results were gain by using descriptive method.
