Patterns in preschool mathematics education

Recognising that a sequence of object makes a pattern, explaining why, being able to copy, extend and create a new pattern are early steps towards an appreciation of spatial patterns. Pattern can be described as a systematic arrangement of numbers or shapes which follows a given rule. When children understood what comes next in relationship to what came before, they had no difficulty understanding and making patterns.
