Analysis of Klaudyán's Maps Derivatives from Map Collection of Charles University
Vydláková, Alena ; Čábelka, Miroslav (advisor) ; Grim, Tomáš (referee)
Analysis of Mikuláš Klaudyán's map derivatives from the Map collection of Charles University Abstract This bachelor's thesis concerns itself with Mikuláš Klaudyán's map of Czech lands from 1518 and derivatives of said map. Main objective of this thesis is to analyse all available derivatives of Klaudyán's map from the Map collection of Charles University and ascertain basic facts about these maps. Furthermore, of all the derivatives, four maps are chosen for a detailed content analysis and a cartometric analysis. The chosen maps are: Sebastian Münster's map from his Cosmographia; another map in a czech version of The Cosmographia translated by Zikmund of Puchov in Kosmografie česká; Italian engraver Bolognino Zalteri's map and a Klaudyán's map of František Jakub Jindřich Kreybich. The content analysis focuses on mathematical, physiographic and socioeconomic elements of the map. Cartometric analysis is done in MapAnalyst software. Resulting from the thesis is a concise table summarizing all the information available about Klaudyán's map derivatives from the Map collection of Charles University. Additionally, a table comparing the names of settlements contained on Klaudyán's map and its derivatives is attached to this thesis and is analyzed to the detail. Key words: analysis, Bolognino Zalteri, František...
The North America in Early Maps
Jílková, Petra ; Bayer, Tomáš (advisor) ; Chrást, Josef (referee)
The North America in Early Maps Abstract The objective of this thesis is to analyze selected map works of European cartographers h showing the territory of North America in the period from 16. to 19. century. Using the cartometric and semiotic methods the map attributes are analyzed focusing the detection and description of the cartographic projection. Next, within the analysis of the topographic content the map symbols and the language of the map are discussed and interesting geographical mistakes of the authors are noticed. On the basis of the partial analyzes the progression of the continent depiction is documented with emphasis on the progression of map symbols and on the change of the shape of the continent in the given period. Key words: North America, cartometry, semiotics, European cartography, discovery, detectproj

Representation of the world in early maps
Jílková, Petra ; Bayer, Tomáš (advisor) ; Semotanová, Eva (referee)
Representation of the World in Early Maps Abstract The thesis deals with an analysis of the representation of the world in early small scale maps in the 16th - 18th centuries. The theoretical framework consists of the outline of the historical context of the given period with emphasis on the representation of the world in connection with the progress of the discoveries and the expansion of the geographical horizon. The development of navigation methods and technical means used to determine the latitude and longitude that had a direct impact on the positioning accuracy of topographic map elements are depicted, too. The practical part of the thesis is focused on the cartometric evaluation of selected map works of European cartographers of the period of 16th - 18th centuries, which consisted of the analysis of cartographic projection and the analysis of the positional accuracy of topographic content. The geometric accuracy of the maps is assessed mainly by the value of the positional deviations in the north-south and west-east directions. Based on the results of the cartometric evaluation, the evolution of the topographic content positioning is determined and the approximate time process of expanding the image of the known world on the contemporary maps is captured. The graphical outputs of the thesis are...

Cartometric a semiotic analysis of Voght's map of Bohemia
Marvanová, Pavlína ; Bayer, Tomáš (advisor) ; Čábelka, Miroslav (referee)
Cartometric and semiotic analysis of Vogt's map of Bohemia Abstract The aim of the thesis is to make a complete analysis of the historical map of Bohemia, which was created by Mauritius Vogt in 1712. The first part of the paper contains the biography of the cartographer and the summary of his other work. In the second part I completely analyse the map and all the elements of the map's frame. The map is rated also in the view of cartometry. In the following part of the work I accomplish the semiotic analysis of map's key with the comparison with other historical maps of Bohemia. In the last part of the paper I compare all the publications of Vogt's map. Within the framework of the analysis I create the map based on the Vogt's map in GIS. Keywords: Vogt's map, old maps of Bohemia, analysis, cartometry, semiotics, vectorization
Cartometric analysis on historical maps
Čech, Vlastimil ; Kuruc, Michal (referee) ; Plánka, Ladislav (advisor)
This thesis examines the accuracy of the plotting of sites on historical maps from 1573 to 1790. The aim of this thesis is to examine the accuracy of the plot of selected historical maps from the Znojmo district against chosen identical points. The measurement results are shown in tables. The discrepancies detected are graphically presented in the corresponding map segments.
