Crisis of the representative function of political parties in Chile

Over the last year, Chile has witnessed a large number of anti-governmental protests against the cabinet of Sebastián Piňera, from which the protests of the university students reached the biggest strenght. The bachelor's thesis deals with the phenomenon of student protests in the context of contemporary Chilean party system and its political parties, which are currently undergoing a crisis of representation. The theoretical part of the thesis describes party systems and functions of political parties, especially the representative function. The first chapter of the empirical part of the thesis examines current conditions of the contemporary Chilean party system, into which the anti-governmental student protests, described in the following chapter, are set. The thesis concludes with reactions of both governmental and oposition coalitions to the student protests and to the political parties crisis. The main aim of the thesis is to answer the question why the decreasing support of the government does not lead to a rise of preferences for the oposition.
Metamorphosis of Internal and External Policy after the Election of Michelle Bachelet in Chile

This master thesis focuses on the changes in domestic and foreign policy during the presidency of Michelle Bachelet in Chile (2006-2010). The goal of this study is to find out whether systemic changes in domestic politics and/or reorientation in foregin policy have taken place within the regional shift to the left. The paper is divided into four logically connected chapters. The conclusion is that, despite several partial changes in domestic sphere and a major emphasis in regional aspects of foreign policy, no aforementioned profound changes have occurred.
Elections in Chile 2009

Twenty years has passed from dissolution of authoritarian regime of Augusto Pinochet and in the presidential election 2009/2010 in Chile the right-wing candidate won. The era of continuous government of centre-leftist coalition, that administrated country from the period of transition, was ended off. The thesis focuses on the analysis of presidential and parliamentary elections, in the first place on the question what was the matter of triumph of the opposite candidate in the presidential election. In this context it should not be left out the binominalism, electoral system which brings other fundamental consequences affecting also the election return of particular candidates or political parties. In the thesis is taken down the running of the election campaign and at the conclusion the returns of both elections are compared.
