The Cult of an Artist at the Turn of the Century - A. Rodin and M. Aleš by M. Švabinský

This work focuses on forms of presentation and self-presentation of two important artists living at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries - a Czech painter Mikuláš Aleš and a French sculptor Auguste Rodin. It can be described as the so called cult of both artists, which means a perception of artist as an outstanding genius. This type of thinking about artists and their work was widely spread in the 19th century. Mikoláš Aleš (1852-1913) is known for his individual artistic style which was based on the Czech romantism and folk art, his style also partly anticipates Czech Art Nouveau. Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) was one of the most important French sculptors working at the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. He is considered to be a founder of modern sculpture. Many of his statues caused scandals which made him famous and well-known also among the Czech artists. Both artists were highly appreciated by young members of the Manes Association of Fine Artists. This Association was established in 1887, since 1897 the Volné směry journal were published. Mikoláš Aleš became the first elected president of this Association. Changing the perception of photography after social networks outset; Typology of Facebook and Instagram selfie photographs

This theoretical work focuses on Facebook and Instagram selfie photos and their perception. It presents the history of portrait photography from the beginning to the presence of social networks. Then I present my research applied to the specific users, in which I'm looking at the typology of selfie photography, and if while there are particular common features that cause negative feedback from other users. The paper aims to clarify what criteria play a role in selecting published photographs, if they correspond to a particular social status of users and if we can follow their typology in subcultures. In general, it refers to the perception of the photographic image at the time of social networks and a large number of visual perceptions.

Mask, Disguise and Role Play in Worldwide Contemporary Self-Portrait

This bachelor thesis deals with the role of mask, disguise and playing with the roles through self-portrait in worldwide contemporary photography. In the first chapters it follows the general development of the self-portrait and a brief history of photography and its forms and tendencies from beginning to the present, it is also focused on the mask in general and role of masks and disguises in the history of photography. Main part of this work is the last chapter, which is devoted to the youngest generation of contemporary photographers. In their self-portraits we can follow tendency which reveals use of mask and disguise for change of their identity. However, they do not create a new identity but takes over, or form the illusion of existing already defined identities. The aim of this thesis is to present the mask as an instrument for role play through a self-portrait.
