Dewatering of foundation pit - numerical analysis

The subject of the presented thesis is a foundation pit dewatering numerical analysis. The study is introduced with practical examples and the summary of the necessary theory. Individual subtasks are modeled as two or three-dimensional problem on a chosen foundation pit example. A comparison with analytical methods and theoretical knowledge about the problem is made. The studies focus on specifying the pumped water quantity, the shape of the depression curve, determining the size of the numerical model and the influence of the finite element network density. The steady-state flow cases, water table aquifer, a well system, sheet pile wall cutoff effect, surface drained pit and partial penetration cases are analyzed. The work proposes a method of modeling a well by FEM. The main output is a 3D analysis of a submerged excavation dewatered with a partially penetrated well system.
Hydrogeological character of selected hardrock environments and groundwater recharge in populated areas

The purpose of this thesis is to adress the hydrogeology of hard-rock environment and groundwater recharge in urban areas. The theoretical part describes hydrogeology character of granite and ophiolite rock environment with emphasis on features such as transmissivity, storativity and hydraulic conductivity that corresponds to the fissuring of the rock environment. It is clear that fault tectonics is the most important factor that influence the hydraulic conductivity. Storativity, on the other hand, is most affected by fissured systems. Ophiolites are a more significant water supply aquifer than granites in terms of storativity. This thesis also describes groundwater recharge in urban areas and not only from precipitation but also through surface water reservoirs, leaks from pipeline network and by import of water from surrounding watershed. Practical part compares values of precipitation from 2013 to 2022 from four ČHMU stations. It compares PET (Potential evapotranspiration), API (antecendant precipitation index) values and their difference. Use of microbial community structure as a marker of conditions in underground biotops

The amount of data obtained by barcoding of prokaryotic 16S rDNA from natural habitats is increasing exponentially. Thus, methods enabling us to extract useful information from these data are of increasing importance. In this thesis microbial communities from water, sludge and drilling dust were analyzed by 16S rDNA sequencing in three geologically well described sedimentary aquifers in Bohemian Massif. The main goal of this research was to establish how different analytical approaches can be useful in interpretation of groundwater biogeochemical processes. Three approaches were used: First, taxonomy and metabolic traits of the most abundant microorganisms were assessed. Second, ordination methods showing metabolic and taxonomic variability between communities were used. Last the analysis of phylogenetic dissimilarity using UniFrac metrics was performed. When analyzing individual localities separately, the shift in microbial community composition corresponds with the change of environmental conditions. The unconstrained ordination method based on the variability in metabolic traits indicated, that sludge samples are more informative than water samples when asking which electron donor is used in microbial communities.
