Metamorphosis of the Transformative Learning

This diploma thesis focuses on Jack Mezirow's theory of transformative adult learning, its main ideas, development, and reception in international andragogical thinking. The thesis aims to analyze the theory of transformative learning and the development of mainstream conceptions of transformative learning from its inception to the present day. Using bibliometric analysis and content analysis of selected international peer-reviewed journals such as the International Journal of Lifelong Education, Adult Education Quarterly, Studies in the Education of Adults, and European Journal for Research on the Education and Learning of Adults, the development of the conceptualization of transformative learning is then be analyzed in an empirical investigation across their last five full editions. The empirical research aims to identify the main themes developed and approaches to transformative learning theory. From a quantitative perspective is analyzed the growth of the number of contributions to transformative learning in the form of studies. Moreover, is followed congruent forms of development of Mezirow's ideas, and their combination with other theoretical approaches or polemical approaches to the theory.
