Dramatic texts of Witold Gombrowicz (motives, life, context)

Polish novelist and dramatist Witold Gombrowicz (1904 - 1969) finished during his life a total of three plays: Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy (1936), The Wedding (1945), The Operette (1966). He is considered as a representant of absurd drama though his first play Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy was written already in 1935 and furthermore he did not declare his attachment to the aesthetics of absurd drama. In addition Gombrowicz was not a theatre lover in a common sense. According to his own words he did not appreciate theatre as a whole. Nevertheless his work is full of references to the principle of theatrality. Despite all the experiments on the fields of topics and language, the three Gombrowicz's plays maintain in principle the classical structure: dramas are locked up in three acts and regarding the formal aspects they are actually the traditional drama pieces, which can be read and played in the same way. "Aristotle's" three unities (the unity of action, the unity of place, the unity of time) are not followed, in this respect the closest link to Gombrowicz's plays leads to the romantic drama, Polish romantic drama in particular (where the time ambuguity is a characteristic feature). Eduardo Pavlovsky - between absurdity and psychodrama

This essay would like to present the work of the world famous playwright from Argentina Eduardo Pavlovsky. He is studied and apriciate all over the world, but unfortunately in Czech Republic is totaly unknown. This work presents three dramatic plays, which represents different period in Pavlovsky plawright life and shows his artistic orientation. We can see there sorne external influence which work upon his work in several periods. Sub-title of this essay is just for illustrate and define the beginning and termination of the work of Pavlovsky. It cannot signify comparision not even other similarity what cauld be between this genres. At the beginnig I presented short historical discursion of Argentina. I focused me on the same period in which his dramatic work has been written. Then I spoke a bit about the history of theatre in Argetina and situation in culture at all. In the part which is called like sub-title af my essay, I facused me on general characteristic of the theatre of absurd and I tried to make sorne parallel between European and Argentine absurd drama. Theory in Bergson´s Essay Laughter and Its applicability to Absurd Drama

The thesis is focused on Bergson?s essay Laughter and a posibility of its applicability to absurd drama. Author of thesis presents it in the contrast of classicist comedy and modern theatre genre. The study of these aspects also brings basic difference between tragedy, comedy and absurd drama.
