The theme of the thesis is life and work of a well-known native of Brtnice, designer architect and professor Josef Hofmann in context with Mid Europe. The second part deals with a fundamental architectural building realization and its large part includes the famous period of his designing work in arts and crafts workroom (Wiener Werkstätte) which had been producing applied arts items in an unbelievably wide range from fashion clothing and jewellery to complete housing equipment, group of which is being made till nowadays. The third part consists of making Hofmann´s way of influence upon designering field closer to his bequest in the present. In the last part, dealing with comparison of Hofmann with some contemporary artists, we try to prove timelessness of one of the most famous designers of the first part of the 20th century and to confirm his European crossover.
