Edvard Beneš and Wenzel Jaksch. Reasons of unsuccessful cooperation

In my bachelor thesis I focus on joint negotiations of Edvard Beneš as a representative of the Czechoslovak exile and Wenzel Jaksch as a representative of the Sudeten German exile. Since 1939, both politicians lived in exile in London and led talks on the post-war solution of the Sudeten German issue and the arrangements of the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia and within Central Europe. At the beginning of the exile, both Beneš and Jaksch were willing to discuss a joint collaboration and their political actions, although their different ideas and visions were apparent right from the beginning and sometimes even collided. Yet, there was a good chance to create a compromise solution. The ongoing war, rising anti-German sentiment in the Protectorate and UK and also strengthening of Beneš's position, the agreement started to become increasingly unlikely and Jaksch started to lose his political influence on developments in the exile inevitably and thus on the future postwar politics. Beneš has managed to carry some of the key points of his political agenda - recognition of Czechoslovakia Government in Exile (1941), renunciation of the Munich Agreement (1942) and obtaining of the fundamental consent of the British Government with the expulsion of the German minority from Czechoslovakia (1942) - which sealed...

Wenzel Jaksch and his political disputations

In dieser Arbeit widme ich mich Wenzel Jaksch, einer der bedeutenden, aber vergessenen regionalen Persönlichkeiten des 20. Jahrhunderts. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist die Entwicklung seiner politischen Linie zu schildern. Der Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit liegt in der Beschreibung der wichtigsten Wendepunkte in seiner Karriere und der Abgrenzung seiner Politik gegenüber den politischen Akteuren, die eine wichtige historische Rolle spielten und gleichzeitig in eine Auseinandersetzung mit der Politik von Wenzel Jaksch traten. Ein wichtiger Bestandteil dieser Arbeit ist die Schilderung der Ereignisse vom Londoner Exil und die Begründung des Misserfolges von Wenzel Jaksch in seinen Verhandlungen mit Edvard Beneš vor dem Hintergrund Jakschs politischer Konzeption. Jakschs inneres politisches Programm, das sich schon zu einer Zeit gestaltete, als sein Autor auf der Startlinie seiner politischen Karriere stand, war nicht zeitgemäß. Vor dem Hintergrund der historischen Ereignisse versuche ich, das demokratische Programm dieses Politikers zu schildern, welches in gewissem Maße die moderne Sozialdemokratie mitgestaltet und bis heute nichts von seiner Aktualität eingebüßt hat.

Renewal of cultural heritage, particularly of sacral ones, in areas of Český Krumlov region after 1989

This thesis deals with cultural sights reconstruction, particularly of sacral character, in villages of Český Krumlov district - in a region formerly inhabited by German population. The introductory parts focus on the development of Czech-German co-existence in Czech lands with its historical chapters, as well as on the impact of the 1939‑1989 events on cultural sights condition in the Czech borderland, particularly in the region of Český Krumlov. The following part is dedicated to history and mainly to the reconstruction of these sights. These reconstructions are a common venture of a cross-border cooperation of Czechs with expatriated German compatriots. The final part of the thesis is enriched by brief biographies of significant people who have bonds to this region.
