Policy of legally held firearms in the Czech Republic.

The aim of this dissertation is to present the issue of legal possession of firearms in the Czech Republic and identify problematic areas within this topic. Dissertation examines whether the current policy of legal possession of firearms is adequate, considering all consequences that this possession brings. Considerable attention is paid to this policy tools and unintended consequences. Dissertation uses the method of desk- research. Within its boundaries content analysis and comparison of available data and documents is made. In the empirical part semi-standardized questionnaire with experts selected from specific areas was conducted as well as a questionnaire survey with license applicants and holders. The main bodies of theory are cultural theory of risk and other heuristics describing distorted risk perception, as well as ethnic security dilemma, which is relevant considering the current threats. Particular empirical support was found, which suggests misperception of risks, when insignificant risks -as driving force for firearms acquisition - are overrated. Unintended consequences of drug prohibition: How does the drug abuse start?

Drug abuse is a major contemporary issue that draws attention of scientists as well as of the general public. Attitudes towards drug prohibition, however, differ greatly. On the one hand, the so called prohibitionists emphasize that each country needs to fight drug abuse. Their critics, on the other hand, argue that this approach constitutes baseless interfererence with the free market and personal freedom. In addition, oponents of drug prohibition point out to the various unintended consequences that the prohibition brings along. Author of this text pays a special attention to the concept of these consequences and, as a result, gives a detailed overview of existing research on unintended consequences in the context of drug prohibition. The main goal of this text is to contribute into the discussion on drug prohibition by conducting a specific empirical research that discloses one of the negative consequences of the prohibition - the illegal black market. Being a direct effect of the drug prohibition, the black market increases the availability of drugs to teenagers. The validity of this effect was confirmed by data obtained by questionnaires from a sample of Prague drug users. Discrimination and Unintended Consequences

The thesis is divided in two parts. The first, theoretical part familiarizes the reader with the term "discrimination" in economical theory from past until present and helps to understand the nature of economical problem of discrimination. Consequently, its modern forms, the efforts of governments to solve this problem by including the anti-discrimination precautions into the law and present state of discrimination at labour market in Czech Republic are described. The second, practical - analytic part, is dedicated to analysis of unintended consequences of anti-discrimination precautions, the analysis of state interventions economy in given area, possible question of moral hazard, and oddities of mature anti-discrimination policies of Germany or USA. Based on these analyses, the conclusion is dedicated to my approach to discrimination at labour market and to own ideas how to understand and solve given problem.
