The Tschechische Bibliothek translation project as part of translation history

This thesis deals with the Tschechische Bibliothek project in the context of sociology and the history of translation. Tschechische Bibliothek is a German-language library of Czech literature comprising 33 books published between 1999 and 2007 by the publishing house Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt as a project of the Robert Bosh Foundation (Robert Bosch Stiftung). The aim of this thesis is to map the process of the library's creation from the project's inception, selection of works and publishing policy in the publishing house DVA through the work with the texts (translations, editing, proofreading, paratexts), their subsequent editing (graphic design, typesetting, printing) and dealing with the finished books (promotion, funding) to the reception of the library in both the German-speaking and Czech environments. In pursuing this aim, this thesis focuses above all on the fields of sociology of translation (the influence of the individual participants on the process of creating the library) and the history of translation (the influence of contemporary translation norms and conventions on the work of translators and editors).
