Tetanus: known and unknown disease
HOSNEDLOVÁ, Barbora
Tetanus is a life threatening disease caused by a toxin produced by the ubiquitous bacterium Clostridium tetani. The aim of this bachelor thesis was on the basis of ... to get information about causes of tetanus among animals in the Czech Republic and to evaluate it. There were 40 filled out questionnaires collected in total. The majority of respondents (72.5%) knew that tetanus is a dangerous disease not only for humans, but also animals. The most often affected animals were dogs (11; 27.5%), goats (10; 25%) and horses (9; 22.5%). Breeds that were affected the most were Czechoslovakien shepherd and Border collie among dogs, then White/Brown shorthaired and Anglonubian goats and Czech warmblood horses. The first described clinically symptoms were cramping in facial muscles, straightening of the ears or cramps. There have also been less typical symptoms like vomiting, swellings of the head, or within herd animals, avoiding the herd. All respondents have stated they would appreciate more information about the disease.
Current infectious equine diseases in the Czech republic and possible preventive measures
ŠPAČKOVÁ, Vladislava
The bachelor work is aimed to the topic of actual problems infectious equine diseases, concretely to equine infectious anemia, contagious equine metritis, influenza and tetanus. Further is focused to preventive precautions made in the horse-breeding area. The objective of this work has been to evaluate on base of given questionnaire the knowledge of horse owners and breeders about infectious diseases and also their knowledge about preventive precautions procedures. From 160 respondents, 98 % of asked were fully knowledgeable in case of tetanus, the lowest knowledge in this research area was about contagious equine metritis and that only 39 % among the horse owners. From preventive precautions side, the most used vaccination is against influenza (91 %), second is against tetanus (83 %).
Health risks to the area affected by flooding and measures to overcome them in the territory of the Czech Republic.
KUČEROVÁ, Andrea
The topic of my thesis called "Health risks to the area affected by flooding and measures to overcome them in the territory of the Czech Republic" I have been engaged in over the recent years affected and still affects all of us. I think this topic is actual as the Czech Republic was hit by floods several times in the past. It is still necessary to develop new measures to minimize the consequences on the lives and health of the population after the flood. In the theoretical part of my thesis, I described the most common infectious diseases associated with the consequences of floods and I was trying to point out the measures which are needed for the rescue and liquidation activities in this natural disaster. The described measures are important to minimize the infectious diseases which threaten the population. To find the practical results, I prepared the questionnaire that I gave to the random people who were involved in the floods in 2002, 2006 and 2009 in the South Bohemia and Pilsen regions. Then, I compared the results of the infectious diseases with the statistical data of the reported infectious diseases in the Czech Republic. The study tested the hypothesis whether the population at the time of the floods was duly and properly protected and informed about the health risks immediately after the flood. This hypothesis can be closed as confirmed as I was convinced that the measures were sufficient to protect the population against the health risks. I dare to say that there are no health risks during the floods, because the only one practical and theoretical knowledge talk about preparing for the evacuation due to a possible flooding.
