EICHNEROVÁ, Tereza
This case study debates an individual, who has been diagnosed with Smith - Magenis syndrome. In the first part the reader is introduced not only the diagnostics and symptoms of the syndrome, but also to the problematic of mental retardation, which is in a close corelation with Smith - Magenis syndrome. The practical part of the work is focused on a specific individual afflicted with the Smith - Magenis syndrome, on the description of his development from birth to present day. The information for this project were gathered using an in-depth semi-structured interview with the child´s mother and a participant and non participant observation conducted at the practical elementary school the child attends. The gathered data is backed up by the results of treatment that the individual has been subject to over the course of his life. The data has been published with consent from the child´s mother. The goal of this work to describe the Smith-Magenis syndrome, following the life of a child afflicted with the disease, to teach the readers about the topic and so further present the Smit-Magenis syndrome to the winder public, using the example of a specific individual. The key value of this work I see in the help it can provide to other parents, whose child has been born with this syndrome, by providing them with useful information, they can gather from reading the following text.
