Receptions of Ilya Repin's artworks and exhibitions of Russian artists in Prague 1900-1953

This barchelor thesis aims to examine the receptions of exhibitions of Russian artists, which took place in Prague in the first half of the 20th century, with an emphasis on the work of the well - know Russian painter Ilya Yefimovich Repin. This thesis will observe transformation of the reception of Russian art under differen historical circumstance that the Czech lands and Russia went through and in the context of the changing attitude of Czech society towards Russian culture. It will be based on the example of the work of I. Repin. The first large group exhibition of Russian artists in Prague took place in 1900, when Russia was struggling sharply with the question of nationalism and the uprising revolutional movement. During the First Czechoslovak Republik several smaller monographic exhibitions of Repin took place. In addition, in 1935 took place another big exhibition of Russian paintings of the 18th - 20th centuries took place and it was created under the auspices of the City of Prague. Pale of Settlement in the Russian Empire

1 Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the establishment of a settlement zone in the Russian Empire. This is an interesting topic, because there was no such thing in other states. It is difficult to compare the Pale of settlement with the ghettos that existed in Europe. The first chapter describes the origin of Pale of settlement itself. The second chapter discuss the general definition of Pale of settlement and the issue of translation of this term into the Czech language. The third chapter focuses on the historical context, the main emphasis is put on the legislation in Russia that was enacted in relation to Jews. It is also very important to mention the attitude to Jews of each tsar and official, because then their attitude was reflected in the laws. The last chapter presents an attempt to formulate the causes of Pale of settlement. The work is based mainly on contemporary literature and contemporary legislative activity, which gives the opportunity to best understand the attitude of the Russian government to the Jews of the Russian Empire. As a result, it can be assumed that Anti-Judaism, which went through its own age development, but from the beginning played only a small role, was very widespread in Russia. Biblical themes in works of Jewish artists on the territory of The Russian Empire at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries

This master thesis is focused on problematics of biblical themes in works of the Jewish artists on the territory of The Russian Empire at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. The introduction of the work deals with socio-political and cultural conditions of the Jewish community, which lived in the pre-revolutionary Imperial Russia. The following part, on the basis of archive materials, remained daily press, periodic press and memoirs, presents two important cultural centres: Jewish Societies for the Encouragement of Arts in Saint-Petersburg and in Moscow, notably their significant support for development of the Jewish arts in Russian culture of that time. The main, third part of the research presents the creative activity of the most prominent representatives of the Jewish art scene and analysis key trends in choosing biblical themes for their art production. Efforts for the formation of the civil society in the Russian Empire at the turn of the 18. and 19. century.

The aim of the thesis is the analysis of russian educated society - the intelligentsia without difference in the origin - in the period when gained its own identity, delimited its ideological grounds and imperatives and had fragmentary tendentions to create the civil society. By institutionals and individuals examples from noble- and raznochintsy intelligentsia is analyzed at the first private and then public socializing. It is related to describe of the creation of beginnigs of the public space and related public opinion. The thesis is therefore concerned with particulars social platforms, in which russian intelligentsia was engaged at that time, especially masonic lodges, salons and clubs. The result of thesis should be the analysis of the development of the educated russian society in the time before Decembrists uprising, the analysis of intellectual potential of this society, its mental emancipation and its diverse activities. The thesis draw from unpublished archival sources, editions and from the latest specialized literature. Methodologicaly, the thesis is based on concepts of social, cultural and intellectual history on background of biographical method and with marginal use of concepts of history of mentalities and gender history. This bachelor thesis is focused on the development of Russian pre-revolutionary banking system and securities markets. The thesis describes activities of individual banking institutions, including the conditions of their operation in the context of royal Russia. The first chapter focuses on origins of global banking. Next parts describe birth of Russian banking and its maturation with regard to the causes of non-standard development. The last chapter presents characteristics of the stock market of the Russian Empire.
