A structure study of high-voltage cathode materials for lithium ion battery using X-ray crystallography

This diploma thesis deals with the X-Ray crystallography study of structural changes within lithium-ion cells. First part consists of the theoretical discussion about the structural changes in commerce lithium-ion cells with focus on X-Ray crystallography. Then the ex situ, in situ and operando terms are discussed. Verification of the XRD usage is realized on the LiFePO4 material. Experimental part deals with the optimization and preparation of electrochemical cells and the measurements. Finally, results of the Rietveld analysis are discussed.

It also observes the influence of the conventional and high-speed grinding technology on the resulting physical and mechanical properties of portland cement, depending on the storage time.
Study of the grindability of the clinker minerals

The thesis deals with the influence of free various technological grinding processes of pure clinker minerals. The goals is to synthetically prepare pure clinker minerals and monitor the effect of the duration of the grinding process and monitor the impact of grinding technology on their crystallinity. A laser granulometry and XRD analysis are used for evaluation.
Use of X-ray diffraction analysis in the optimization of cathode material syntheses for Li-ion batteries

This thesis deals with study of structural changes in electrode materials prepared by spray-dry synthesis at different calcination temperatures using X-ray diffraction analysis. In the theoretical part, the work deals with the principle of XRD, parameters that influence the resulting diffractogram and Rietveld analysis. The part further deals with possible syntheses of cathode materials, calcination, and possible ways of battery degradation. The experimental part focuses on investigating the ideal calcination temperature and time of prepared cathode material samples.
Synthesis and Characterization of Perovskite Nanostructures

The present Bachelor's thesis is focused on the improvement of the hydrothermal condi- tions for BaTiO3 nanoparticles synthesis to obtain better morphology, narrow size distri- bution, and high purity of the prepared product. Particular emphasis is on the influence of different parameters in reaction, such as co-solvent, co-surfactant, the ratio between oleic acid to oleylamine, and ex-situ sodium oleate, on the resulting structure and morphology of BaTiO3 nanoparticles. The structural purity was examined with powder X-ray diffraction with Rietveld refinement to obtain and follow changes in lattice parameters and coherent domain sizes. Moreover, from the refinement of PXRD patterns, the rough estimate of a synthesis by-product (BaCO3) abundance was extracted. Furthermore, implementing the spherical harmonics function within the Rietveld refinement allowed us to access the average nanocrystallite shapes with direction-dependent crystallite sizes. The crystallite shapes and sizes were compared with the physical nanoparticle size obtained from trans- mission electron microscopy experiments. The thesis is completed with attenuated total reflectance Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy spectra, which gave us insight into the attachment of the oleic acid at the nanoparticle surface. This bachelor thesis deals with the impact of three different grinding technologies for milling and grain crystallographic properties of the synthetically prepared pure alite. It studies the lenght of the milling process and the impact of grinding technology to crystallinity, grain shape and slope of the preffered mineral orientation in preparing specimens for XRD – analysis.
