This diploma thesis deals with marriage and family in the chosen Roman Catholic surroundings. The aim of ethnographic research was to find out how the Roman Catholic faith affects life experiences of believers, which means, how is marriage in Christian constructed according to actors of my reasearch and what other important themes are emphasized by ecclesiastical authority. I was also focused, if there are in this construction of marriage and family some social inequalities or gender streotypes present. For the purpose of this thesis, I realized a participatory observation on premarital preparation, interviews with three preachers, an analysis of two books about marriage and two significant ecclesiastical - pastoral documents. In the theoretical part, I define basic notions and concepts connected to the research theme. In the second part of the thesis, I turn to research method, empirical data and its analysis and interpretation. Keywords: Premarital preparation, marriage, family, Roman Catholic church, Christianity, gender, man and woman
